“Cheap and cheerful”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2007

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel. It's what you would expect for the money in Reading. Bathroom could perhaps do with a refurb but room itself was warm and clean. Very little traffic noise although at front of hotel facing on to A4. Breakfast ok and plentiful. Staff pleasant.

Stayed there for 4 nights on business. The first night after a drink in the bar my colleagues and I made our way to the restaurant only to be blocked quickly by staff who informed they were not serving food. We made our way back to the bar for food to be told we stoped serving. I said it was only 7.45pm and they just shrugged shoulders and said no more food left.

Some residents had ordered a pizza and i managed to get a number and ordered enough for the 3 of us to be delivered to the bar of the hotel. A beefeater place is a short walk but as it was raining very heavy we decided a pizza was best.

No food apart from breakfast was available all week so we went to the beefeater pub about a mile down the road. Each ight when we returned around 10pm the door was locked and we had to raise attention for someone to let us in.

The same when we needed to leave around 6am the follwoing morning again the dor was locked and it took around 5mins to locate someone to open it.

Would I go back................No!

Needed a hotel that was cheap and near London and found this Hotel well reviewed.

Rooms are quite small but clean, nothing pretentious. Food was available until 8pm so I never got to try it. There is food nearby if you arrive later as I did. Its an easy bus or taxi to and from Reading Station.

If you want style, class and ambience you'll be disappointed. If you just want somewhere comformatable to stay then the value is excellent, and includes a reasonable (and quickly served) breakfast

We chose this hotel because it seemed reasonable value & had 2 good reviews on Trip Advisor. It was also close to our daughter's new house & we had offered to look after our 10 month old grandson on moving day.
Arrived & given a room which could only be described as pokey but was in the main clean if you ignored the corners & edges. The brochure said they served evening meals but when we tried to book the receptionist confided that the food was all microwaved & the Beefeater down the road would be a better bet.
We had a reasonable night's sleep & went for breakfast next morning. We were met at the door & asked 'what you want'. The reply 'full English' sent him shooting off to the kitchen whilst we were left holding bowls of cereal with not one cleared table in the room. Our predicament was observed but ignored so as the cornflakes got soggier we eventually cleared ourselves a table & sat down just as the cooked breakfast arrived, bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushrooms & tinned tomato, toast (white sliced only.). No offer to keep it hot so we abandoned the cereal & made ourselves a pot of tea. No individual jugs so every cup needed a trot back to the main drinks table for milk.
Later in the day we came back with our 10 month old & asked if they had a high chair available. The reply 'We've nothing here for babies' made sure we asked no more questions! This is quite clearly a commercial hotel for reps & contract workers whose luminous jackets brightened breakfast & for whom a speedy breakfast is essential.
Could go on to talk about the broken tiles & dirt clogged corners in the bathroom, etc but by now you will have got the picture!
The staff were friendly but were let down by the hotel & it's lack of facilities.

A great price for a one nighter. Very close to public transport and close enough to walk into the centre of Reading.

Bright and airy communal rooms, staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was of a good quality and delivered to the table very quickly.

Room comfy with tea and coffee making facilities and extra large shower. Bed was a bit creaky and a little lumpy.

I would definitely use this hotel again.

I picked this hotel because of its good value accommodation. It is situated about a 10 minute walk from Reading West Railway Station, and about 25 minutes walk from Reading Station. Buses 25 and 26 run frequently from the main station, and stop very close to the hotel in Bath Road.

The hotel has a small reception area, restaurant, and bar, the place appears to have been fully refurbished quite recently, and is spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly, and the check in was fast and efficient. I had booked a single room for one night, and the room was perfectly adequate for my purposes, providing a single bed, wardrobe, dressing table and chair, television, telephone, television, hair dryer, shower and toilet. The usual tea and coffee making services were also provided. The room was double glazed, and although I had the window open, I did not notice any traffic noise from Bath Road,

The breakfast service was good, the usual help yourself to tea/coffee, cereals, yoghurt and fruit juice, with the main part of the breakfast cooked to order.

Several of my friends stayed at this hotel on the same night as myself and we were all very happy with this hotel.

  • Liked — Cleanlinss, comfort, and value.
  • Disliked — There was nothing that I disliked.
