We were amazed at how good the Hotel was at the excellent price we paid. Stayed there on Saturday night to visit our daughter at Reading University, we would not normally stay at a city centre Hotel so encountered one of the few downsides of the Hotel which we had never experienced before on other breaks, the parking! It was ok if you left the car in the NCP and didn't move it but as we had to go to collect our daughter and back and then drop her off and back the parking had to be paid each time so really added up together with the £10 overnight fee. The other downside was that it was so hot everywhere, the windows have safety wires so can only be opened an inch or so and blow closed anyway and the cooling setting for the room is useless. I hardly slept as it felt like a sauna in the room.
All this aside as most Hotels always seem unreasonably hot, the Hotel was really lovely, very modern, extremely clean in all areas and very centrally placed for Reading town centre. It was a shame that the Restaurant for some strange reason does not open on a Friday or Saturday night, food served in the Bar area only otherwise we would have eaten there but breakfast was one of the best we have ever had. Great selection and the food never ran out on the hot buffet so not that nightmare queue for eggs!
Husband and two daughters used the swimming pool and said was smallish but good. To be honest we couldn't believe our luck with the choice of the Novotel. Will definitely use again when we visit our daughter.

I stayed in Novotel Hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is in the city center very close to the railway station and bus station for Thames Valley Park.
The rooms was large, very nice bathroom both shower and bath tub. The breakfast had everything from cereals and eggs to sausages and beams. The staff was very helpful.
If you need internet in your room you need to pay, otherwise there is a computer in the lobby with free access to internet.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst on a traing course at the nearby railway station. I can only echo the positives from previous reviewers. I found the staff pleasant, facilities excellent (must use the pool, sauna & steam room) & rooms and public areas including the restaurant very nice. Throughout the hotel standards of cleanliness are excellent and the whole place has a very nice ambience. I enjoyed the food served at both breakfast & dinner, a high quality of ingredients were evident. Overall an excellent stay. One very minor criticism which I believe has been mentioned previously, the in room AC didnt work too well. My room was on the warm side and despite turning the thermo to 10C there was no real change in temperature. Speaking with other guests this appeared to be a common theme, one which the hotel management may wish to address.

I stayed at this hotel and used the conference facilities and found it to be a very pleasant experience. The staff couldn't be more helpful with an early check-in and going the extra mile to look after us. The room was clean an modern and had all the things you would expect for a city centre hotel. The receptions staff very pleasant and efficient too. I would use this hotel again.

I have stayed at this hotel about ten times and thought it was about time I posted a review.

Overall, this is a good business hotel in the centre of town with very few surprises. Arrival is easy – providing you come on foot, or use train/bus. Parking at the hotel is limited to about 4 spaces, the backup is an NCP to the rear of the hotel which is less than appealing. If you’re in Reading on business you shouldn’t bring a car – the traffic is a nightmare, as is parking. Best to come on the train and walk around the town centre or get the bus out to the Thames Valley Business Park. If you prefer to drive, stay at a hotel outside the centre.

About the hotel: it’s fairly new and not yet showing any major signs of decay. Check-in is normally well staffed with no queue. The rooms are of a fair size and well decorated. There is a separate WC, which can be a little tight and a bath/shower room behind the bath, with a separate shower cubicles. The shower pressure has been good in all the rooms I have stayed in and the bathroom in good order with the usual shampoos, soaps etc. The towels are still fluffy!

Beds are comfortable and there is a good work area with swing out desk area and wifi in the rooms. There is a small mini bar with beers and soft drinks. There is an off licence next door, if you can manage the walk to save a few £££.

Breakfast is a buffet and a cut above the usual quality in hotels – maybe it’s the French ownership, but the food is of a higher standard and well prepared. There are a couple of tables for TV addicts with a TV screen and headphones, so you can watch the breakfast news whilst munching your cornflakes.

The location means that a lot of shopping and eating is on your doorstep – good if you’re in town for a couple of days.

The only downside is that is it a little characterless – but sometimes consistency is better than chacter.

I stay as a regular guest at this hotel, which as other reviewers have said is very handy to get to from Reading's main station, whilst also very convenient for the town centre's restaurant/bars, shops & nightlife.

Whilst I have grown to know the staff over the 9 months or so I have been a weekly visitor, I have observed the way the reception, restaurant & other staff treat other guests, and give them all 10/10 for professional, customer focussed and friendly service.

My particular favourites are Christian Concari the Bar Manager & Karolina Florczuk who provide an entertaining and warmly welcoming presence of an evening. That said, Auriele who regularly check me in always has a welcoming smile and personalised greeting for me.

Looking at the hotel amenities:

Rooms: Clean, comfortable and well equipped, all rooms have a connector to play your iPOD via the TV. Exec rooms also include a BOSE iPOD docking station. With a mini bar and modern clean bathroom with both shower & bath. Also personal safes are in all rooms to keep your valuables safe.

Restaurant: I tend just to eat breakfast, and dine out in the many restaurants around town. On the odd occasion I have had a bar meal it is served quickly and piping hot, as the bar & restaurant are not far apart. Food is a little pricey compared with outside, but I guess that's the same whichever hotel you eat in. Breakfast is a self service buffet with a very wide selection to choose from

Other: There is a small pool, sauna & steam room along with a gym located under the hotel. This area is very well looked after by the cleaning staff at the hotel, and has everything you would need to keep a few pounds off!

Overall, I really enjoy staying at the Novotel in Reading. I stay in many other hotels throughout the UK, including other Novotels, and some London hotels costing considerably more. The dedicated team who work here make this place stand out from the crowd and a pleasure to visit.

I stayed here for a single night business trip and it was really easy to find from the railway station and is right in the centre of Reading as the name suggests.

Asked for a quiet room, and the staff provided exactly that to wich I got a good nights sleep. Don;t know what the rooms would be like facing the main street, maybe a bit noisier.

Breakfast was included and was very substantial, and again the rooms were very nice with an really strange design. Bath/SHower Sink in an almost Japanese-esqe ante-room off the bedroom, with the toilet in its own room beside the door.

I would say this is the best hotel around for anyone doing business in Reading, and along with its pool and fitness centre, gives everything anyone could need to relax after a hard day
