This is a pub. Not as strange a comment as might be supposed when the number of food outlets serving beer is taken into account. Great range of ales. Friendly staff. Convenient to get to [on frequent bus routes with at least 2 buses going into center of town until after midnight.

Back street Boozer off Reading's Oxford Road. A selection of 12 cask ales welcomes the visitor (as do the staff), all priced at £3.20 regardless of gravity. All in the very best condition. Possibly, a one pub pub crawl - if you're bored, or don't fancy a walk? One very good reason for the beer fan to go to Reading.
Food consists of a good old English 'fry up' in the morning and rolls and pies later - this is a 'wet led' pub. You will not find people visiting to eat - that would entirely miss the point.

One of the top ten best pubs in the country!

Introduced to this pub by our son, First impressions are good, what you expect from a friendly local plus the benefit of a great range of real ales and ciders. The staff are friendly and more than happy to offer "Try before you buy", excellent. I am unable to comment on the food as we only drank there, however I sure if the attention to food is the same as the attention to beer it should be excellent. I don't know if they have a separate restaurant attached but I guess from what I saw dining would be amongst drinkers in the general bar area, not perhaps to everyone's taste if you looking for an intimate evening out. As a pub I really like this place, well done.

The market this outlet aims at is apparent from the décor as one enters: walls and ceiling covered with hundreds and hundreds of beer clips. Around ten real ales and half a dozen ciders on, regularly changing, on at any one time. Everything tried was excellently kept; and Independence, an American style pale ale, from the Bristol Beer Factory absolutely superb.
Food is basic, and designed as a subsidiary accompaniment to the ales and ciders: traditional fried breakfast served till 1.00pm; baguettes and pies.
Small car park - with VERY tight entrance/exit - to the rear.
There as away fans; no issues, entirely friendly atmosphere. The pub lays on a private hire double decker to the Madejski Stadium for supporters - £3.50 return. Buy tickets in the car park at back of the pub.
