“Oxford Road favourite is back”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Welcome back the Flavour of India in another guise. The restaurant has changed it's name to Reading Tandoori, but the food and service are back to what they were. We went along for the Wed deal - starter, main, side dish and rice/naan for £10.95. The service was excellent, the food was great and the price was spot on. So glad to have this local curry house back gem back.

“It was fine.......”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Went with a large group so they had a bit to contend with, but the staff coped well and the food was pleasant and well presented. The complimentary drink at the end of the meal was very well received.

“It's back!”
Reviewed 18 October 2013 via mobile

Thanks to the previous reviewer we decided to give Reading Tandoori a go, having been hugely disappointed when The Flavour closed earlier in the year. We didn't try Mumen, didn't fancy it, so can't comment. However... we had a really great meal at Reading Tandoori. The interior is actually better than it used to be, but more to the point, the food was exactly as we were used to. We tried our 'usuals' (samosas, bhajis, lamb rogan, butter chicken), all of which were just as we had hoped they would be. My husband was delighted that Mongoose beer was still available. Missed some of the old waiters, the Tia Maria and cream shot and the rose, but will certainly be going back to our Friday night haunt.

Flavour, you were missed and thank goodness you're back.

“Mumen seems to have listened to it's customers”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Initially very sceptical of the replacement of Flavour of India, we decided to go and try it out. I spoke to the manager and asked him how it's been going. He said that he'd lost so many clients but as a result, removed the huge deli counter, making that side of the restaurant a bar/waiting area for take aways and the restaurant side he has brought back the alcohol, the Flavour of India menu (even using the old menus with the name still on!) and has reintroduced the complimentary drink. In fact, the experience for us was exactly the same apart from two small things: 1) The restaurant is half the size (not a problem) and 2) I didn't get a customary rose!

So people, the ghost of Flavour of India has arisen and come back to us, albeit slightly smaller and with a new name. Even Happy Wednesday still exists.

Very happy about that! And I think the manager has done well by listening to feedback.

LET'S GO BACK!!!!

“Heartbroken!”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

I'm totally gutted that Flavour of India has turned into Mumen. The seating space inside has been halved, thanks to a huge (empty) buffet counter. They no longer serve alcohol (but you can bring your own). They no longer deliver either :-O

The menu is WEIRD and very brief - featuring such dishes as "Dry Meat" with no description whatsoever! The food is apparently Bengali, if that means anything specific to anyone (not me). What we ordered was nice enough (Kahari Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Meat, pilau rice and a garlic naan), but all I could think of was 'bring back Flavour of India'! You can apparently order from the old menu (and I think they've been inundated by complaints, as they were almost cringing at our barrage of questions about what happened), but I don't think it's the same chef. We did at least get After Eights at the end of our meal, but apart from that (and one of the waiters from FOI), it was all completely different. WAH.

Another person that will probably be checking out Bhoj a few doors up instead :(
