This is a lovely grand hotel, with spacious rooms and good service.
I would definately go there again. The beds were lovely and comfortable, the en-suite was really clean and modern and I want one like it at home.

It feels very upmarket and grand, the decor is not perfect but it is still lovely as long as you don't focus on the small details such as scuff marks on the wall paper in coridors.

We had a great time here.

The hotel is lovely and you get a nice warm welcome. Sadly, it's a 'little' bit tired and I am being honest by saying 'little'. It had no affect on our stay or our enjoyment of the hotel bearing in mind it is an old building so don't read too much into this small critisism. Our room (the suite) was massive and extremely well laid out and comfortable. Sadly, the people in the room above overflowed their bath or something so water started to come through a light fitting in the bathroom. A quick call down to reception and two very attentive and friendly guys were at our door within 2 minutes. All sorted very quickly and they cleaned the mess that was made in our bath and left. A little while later they called at our door again to make sure all was still okay, brilliant. The reception staff were very, very helpful suggesting where we could go to eat and helped us to plan our night our. The following morning we all (6 of us) went for breakfast and it was incredible (buy your breakfast the night before as it is about £3 cheaper - £9 instead of £12). The spread of food was huge and there was every kind of food you could wish to have freely available, all laid out ready for you to help yourself. My only negative comment is that they charge for their internet access, I think it was £12 for 24 hour accessand the car park is an additional £5 for overnight parking.
Again, in conclusion, very friendly staff, very good hotel and brilliant food.
Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: buy your breakfast voucher the night before book you car in at reception on arrival as it an expens...

I hadn't stayed here for many years and only did so because the nearby Hilton was full. However I was pleasantly surprised to find it much improved. We had an executive room on the top floor, but room was nice enough although not what I would really call executive...
We were warned that there may be noise from a wedding wand offered a quieter room but we were going to a wedding anyway so no great problem. It is a great old hotel with character and we were made to feel very welcome.. will use again happily...

Room Tip: check if there is a function on if you want a quiet room!

Stayed for one night. We were in the modern extension. Impressed with the hotel from the outside, and our room was large and well-appointed. Excellent value. Asked at reception for a nearby indian restaurant and they gave us full instructions how to get there (we wanted to walk) and it was also excellent. Would certainly return to this hotel if I found myself in the area again. Just a shame the rate isn't inclusive of breakfast. And also parking charge of £5. That was a bit disappointing.

Locotion good, and I am sorry that is the only good this review gets.

Rooms, door frames have more coats of paint than paint in a Dulux factory, they were stylish and modern in 1974, the only modern thing was the kettle and Lcd tv.

Bathroom had broken sink plug mechanism with green mucky scum behind it was disgusting, clearly maintenance man had missed that one.

Beware, £15 for 24hrs wifi use, what a rip off, there is no need to be as greedy, especially as most places today offer free wifi. Did I pay the £15? - I don`t do getting ripped off.

Breakfast was nothing short of awful, bacon that so hard you could of used it to steady the wobbly table leg, no fried eggs and why oh why do hotels offer tinned plum tomatoes, after raising the query about the bacon, the waiter merely removed the ashet and trundled off to tell chef, if a chef cooked that bacon and wants to put his name to it, he should be ashamed. I walked out in absolute disgust and went to McDonalds, where I got free wifi.

Sorry, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Went for one night on a Groupon deal. Couldn't fault it. Room was large, very clean, and had a fantastic recently refurbished bathroom. Reception staff very helpful - gave us a map and directions for a local restaurant we had booked and recommended nice bars in the area. Breakfast was great, although very busy at 9am on a Sunday. One word of warning though....dont put the postcode of the hotel into your sat nav...you will end up underneath an old railway arch! Use the street name instead. Overall a good value one night stay, and we would use the hotel again.
