Together with a colleague from my university year I organised a reunion dinner at the Halifax Hall Hotel in Sheffield. The reunion dinner was for 39 members of our Group held in November 2013. Without exception the 38 of us who were able to attend voted it a very enjoyable and memorable experience mainly because the Hotel looked after us in exceptional style, both in terms of comfort and catering. It is described as a Boutique Hotel and we consider it came up and exceeded our expectations. For Sheffield University graduates considering a year reunion we could not recommend anywhere better. In our situation we were granted a concession on our room reservations as we were returning graduates from Sheffield University which made it even more appealing from a cost viewpoint. The manager - Paul - made a point of personal attention to our every need and the staff in general were most helpful and courteous in every detail.
We'd give it 5 stars for comfort, service and cuisine.

Room Tip: The Johnson suite was most comfortable.

Although right on the edge of the student village, this is a beautiful and peaceful hotel. Great care has been taken over the rooms which although compact are very clean and comfortable. The modern en-suite bathrooms are spotlessly clean. You will find bottled water, and a towelling robe as well as the usual things in the room. The only thing missing is tea and coffee facilities and these are provided in the hallway with fresh milk available and fresh fruit and cookies. Breakfast was fabulous - a range of cereals and fresh fruit which can be followed by a cooked breakfast - it was excellent. Staff are very warm and welcoming and extremely hard-working. This hotel is very much worth a visit!

A trip down memory lane - my wife had been a student in Halifax Hall when it was a hall of residence. The staff had got us a room as near as possible to her room 40 years ago. It was brilliant, the staff are very good indeed and we had a totally memorable time there. Really good all round.

Dear Paul H,

So glad to hear your stay was wonderful for you and your wife. We love having alumni visit us. I'm sure it looks different but we were insistent on keeping as many original features as possible from the old blocks.
Hope to see you again!

Our trip got off to a stormy one as our journey started on the day of this century's great storm. Unfortunately this meant my mum's trip was delayed by one day as there were no trains from London! The hotel certainly lived up to our expectations. We had picked it due to the closeness to our daughter's student flat. This was our first opportunity to explore the city of Sheffield & it certainly did not disappoint. The hotel staff made recommendations as did the helpful tourist information guy. The breakfast at the hotel was great especially the homemade granola & the lovely fruit. All the staff were so helpful & made our stay a one would have no hesitation in repeating. We've still have lots of Sheffield to explore.

We found this new hotel (in the former Hall of Residence) superb. Being newly refurbished everything was of an excellent quality. Furthermore the welcome by well trained staff and the quality of the breakfast were well above our expectations.

We wondered about noise from being in a student environment on a Saturday night, but were disturbed by voices just once!

We recommend Halifax Hall to anyone needed an efficient and comfortable hotel in this part of Sheffield.

The welcome was extremely warm, and the receptionist helpful. The room was spacious, clean and newly decorated. The breakfast menu was very varied and the dishes delicious. Would definitely recommend. The nearby buildings are student residences, but there was no disturbance.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a family wedding which was held in this hotel/ conference centre. The venue was ideal for this & we had a lovely celebration.
The building has been refurbished to a high standard, the location and grounds are lovely. As others have said the staff are extremely friendly & helpful.

That said, there were however a few 'teething problems' with the hotel that need adressing
- There is an issue with the security staff, a taxi carrying an elderly lady was initially told to drop her off at the security barrier rather than being allowed to drive to the entrance (she was allowed in after some negotiation.) We were also reprimanded on our final morning by the security staff for not displaying a car park pass- this had not been mentioned at check in.
- The coffee/tea points in the corridor are an excellent idea but need more frequent attention. We found that the milk & cookie jars weren't replenished & that there was a shortage of clean cups & saucers on occassions.
- On the morning of the wedding, breakfast service was chaotic- some members of our party waited over an hour for their cooked breakfasts!

If more attention is paid to these details this hotel will be excellent & we would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Dear Mercury28,

Great to read that the service you received from our staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and I absolutely appreciate all of your feedback and will make sure I touch base with the security staff to ensure a safe arrival for all of our guests. I had feedback from the breakfast service on the morning on the wedding and I can assure you this is not standard practice. I hope the next time you are in Sheffield you would come and see us again!
