Stayed 2 nights; it was extremely clean & tidy, staff were very helpful, especially have to mention John Paul who catered for us. Room was of good size, bedding crisp white, shower was big and being of a large size myself, was ample enough for me. Took my two children, so 4 per room and heating in room was perfectly set at 22° but could be changed if required. There was a TV in the room, kettle to make a tea or coffee and towels for showering.
Breakfast in the morning was help yourself; cereals, cooked breakfast -sausage, egg & beans, croissants, yogurts, fresh fruit, toast, plenty to choose from.
I am very fussy when it comes to cleanliness, food and treatment by the staff and I can honestly state it was first class and I would definitely stay again.

Room was ok overlooking the River Dom and the Reception staff were polite and efficient. The room was clean. We stayed one night and thought the price including breakfast was good. However the cooked selection was poor ( only 3 items) and they weren't very nice neither was the orange juice. On balance I wouldn't book to stay again.

I usually stay in the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria which is next door, but this express was a lot cheaper on this particular night so I stayed in it for the first time.

Well located, plenty of parking - even if you have to park in the full Holiday Inn's car park there is a lift down from it to the Express - not sure why both hotels charge £5 for parking, they would probably get more business if they just added £5 on to the room rates rather than be seen to have started charging. Im sure this is just to avoid locals parking in the car park for free but the hotels should have come up with a solution that didnt make the guests pay.

New style express well appointed, comfortable beds, nice bar with plenty of tv's etc

However the problems I had surrounded breakfast time - as a platinum priority member I asked for a newspaper at reception around 8am, part of the IHG benefits, and was told "sorry I havent been to get them yet" I asked if they could go and get them and got an "sorry im too busy" reply - bearing in mind newsagents have papers at 5am im sure the staff could have managed to collect them before 8am

The breakfast area was so badly designed it was like cattle using it - no trays, nowhere for tea bags etc, cheap tea bags with no tags meant left all over and tasted of nothing, dirty dishes left over lots of tables and no staff member visibly attempting to clear them although plenty of staff chatting at the corner of the bar, I had to approach one of them to get teaspoons as there were none available. This serving area is in a corner and should have a flow through it (like other expresses) - cutlery, plates, juice, tea / coffee, cereal, toast, hot food etc but its all mixed up which meant it was difficult to serve yourself due to the number of people moving in different directions in this very small area

The food was fine, appreciate its free and will never be like a paid for breakfast, but hotel might want to consider the selection of cereal - 4 kinda available and they should probably pick the four kinds most guests would use most and not special k and crunchy nut cornflakes

I would go back as the room quality was very good, but the staff and breakfast process needs work, although if this and the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria were close on price id go to the proper Holiday Inn without question

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We were pleased to read that on the whole you liked our hotel and you had found your room modern and comfortable and you liked the bar area.
We have taken cognisance of your comments regarding the car parking charges which are in force at the hotel. All of the city centre hotels in Sheffield now charge guests for parking, however, we pride ourselves in providing great value for money and car parking is discounted to £5.00 for 24 hours parking for hotel residents which makes us the cheapest of most of the hotels in the city centre. We are also sorry that your experience at breakfast was not to our normal high standard on the morning of your stay and you found the service to be a little disorganised. We would like to assure you that we have already discussed your comments regarding breakfast service with the team. We apologise that as a Platinum guest you did not receive your complimentary newspaper, however on the day of your visit the newsagent was late making his delivery to the hotel.
Thank you once again for your comments and we do hope that we can welcome you back either to the Holiday Inn Express Sheffield City Centre or to the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria which is our four star, full service sister hotel located next door.
Kind regards
