Visited this restaurant last night for a small birthday meal, and we were thoroughly impressed. Everything we ordered, from the fantastically good value set meal (£10) to one of the top end (still only £11) chef's recommendations, was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was pretty perfect; very attentive but from a non-intrusive distance. I phoned ahead to ask about a birthday treat for the birthday girl, and the head chef/owner/manager (I think) presented it, singing happy birthday as he came, and it didn't seem to appear on the bill. We reckon the food is of the same standard as the much more upmarket Baan Thai down the road, but at a fraction of the price! Will definitely be coming again - absolutely charming!

We went there on 2nd April on a voucher deal, the first time we had tried one and because our kitchen was being refurbished it seemed a good idea to take advantage of a 3 course meal for two for £16. You cant get a takeaway for £8 each! First impressions were that the place needed some TLC and some refurbishment. There was even an ironing board near the bar counter. Staff were very friendly and we did not have to wait for menus and drinks. The menu was a rather amateurish document and they clearly had a lot of emphasis on voucher deals. It was clearly spelt out what you could choose. The food itself was very palatable and good quality. We had a mixed starter for two followed by red curry and a chicken stir fry. The only thing that was cold was the temperature inside the restaurant. It was marginally warmer inside than out even though we were sat next to a radiator which was not working. Can't knock the food for the price we paid. Would I take my wife there on a Saturday night as a treat...I don't think so, but as a voucher deal, I cannot complain

Just been to The Orchid for the first time tonight. What a lovely little restaurant, yes, as previously reviewed, it could do with a re-vamp, but you go for the food, which is wonderful and so reasonable, couldn't believe the prices. My choices happened to coincide with options on the Early Evening Menu (just coincidence) and I had a starter of 3 Spring Rolls, with usual carved veg accompaniments, followed by a stir fry meal and choice of rice, with a dessert to follow and tea or coffee to finish.

My husband chose from the main menu, 6 small Thai Fishcakes etc for starters, a stiry fry main course plus rice, and they threw in a dessert at no cost. They brought us complimentary crackers to start and an individual dish of wrapped mints at the end. We had a Singha Beer and a glass of rose wine, all for about £30. Would have been even cheaper if both main courses had been on Early Evening Menu. Food was excellently cooked and the waitress couldn't have been nicer, even exchanging our plates when she brought them - warm - for hot ones, when we asked.

Unlike our local Thai restaurant (recently changed hands unfortunately and not for the best), all courses were brought together rather than one member being served theirs, and another 5//10 minutes later. Also, no hanging about between courses, they didn't rush us but we weren't left wondering where rest of meal was.

Will definitely go again, and we were able to park right outside the restaurant. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
