“Regularly stay at Garrison Hotel”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

We always stay at the Garrison Hotel when we visit Sheffield especially for the footy. It's location works well for us. Although it is a few miles outside the city there is a good cheap tram service, a one day ticket can take you all over Sheffield, from Hillsborough to the city and to Meadowhall or Crystal Peaks. The hotel itself is very interesting, the rooms are the old officers quarters. The rooms themselves are a bit worn, the furniture a bit dated and the rooms could be a bit cleaner. Even though the bed was small we did have a good nights sleep, the hotel being very quiet and the room adequately warm. There is free parking and free wifi. There are back entrances to the bar and breakfast lounge saving walking around the road. The bar is well stocked with plenty of various beers and the food is very good. Some people slait the breakfast but we have find it ok. You have choice of cereals, fruit, croissants, toast and you can choose from 4 items from the menu. The price for b&b cannot be beaten. We would recommend a stay here.

Stayed for one night in August whilst visiting my daughter.
Unusual design/layout but very nice rooms, comfy bed and free wifi.
Didn't stay for a meal at night but had breakfast the next morning which was okay-ish.
Not a bad price, better to stay here than a travelodge/days inn type of place.

Handy location and a free car park although you could have a fair walk to reception if it's busy!

Motel type accomodation. I find it very handy for the area of sheffield I need to visit. There is a bar/restaurant that you can go to. Next to a big supermarket. The breakfast is very good but they would do with a sign to let you know which part of the building you need to go to as I only knew by following my mum who had been before. Friendly staff and the room is fine for staying over - could perhaps do with a make over but was clean.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in August. The staff were friendly & helpful, the building, rooms and facilities were fine. Our room was spacious and clean. The big let down was the food. For the English Breakfast there is only a choice of 4 items from a list of egg, bacon, sausage, beans and CHOPPED TINNED TOMATOES!!! We ate there on the second evening and the menu was basic (Typical pub food) but my gourmet burger was like a discus and the Chicken Curry chosen by my wife was just about adequate. Such a shame.

We recently stayed at the Garrison hotel for a two night stay. First impressions were favourable. The setting in an old barracks is picturesque and the chalet style rooms were set out in an attractive courtyard arrangement. The room was a good size, with en-suite bathroom (featuring a good, powerful shower) though somewhat dated in terms of the decor and a little shabby in terms of the furnishings. However, the room was very clean which is a big plus point. At £55 per night and close to the city centre I genuinely felt the hotel was good value for money. Breakfast was also ok in that there was cereal, toast, croissants and a full english breakfast on offer, In terms of room for improvement - we had great difficulty getting the door to our room to close properly and to lock securely. Had I been staying there alone this would have been a great concern to me both for the security of myself and my property. The other significant room for improvement I think is for the hotel to have new beds and pillows. Whilst the room contained a standard sized double bed I found it hard to sleep in - too cramped for two average sized adults to share. The first night I had no sleep whatsoever due to the horrible kapok filled pillow that was rock solid, lumpy and extremely uncomfortable. There were, however, other pillows supplied in the room that were marginally better and so I was able to sleep better the following night. However, none of the pillows were in good condition and could do with being replaced. Overall, the hotel was ok for what we needed

Good - Friendly and helpful staff, pretty central courtyard, unique use of old barracks, useful location - 10 minute taxi into town, or bus/tram from outside Morrisons.

Not so good - Room, bathroom, furnishings, furniture and breakfast room all a bit tired and in need of some updating. Walls/Ceiling were a bit thin. Breakfast included in price and was OK, but nothing more. Thought cooked breakfast options a little bizarre - can only choose 4 items from list, when list 8 items long can understand, but when item list only 5 items long gave penny-pinching impression.
