“Birthday Celebrations”
Reviewed 9 November 2012

We recently enjoyed a family celebration meal for my husbands 70th birthday. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. the food is extremely good and was a very comfortable atmosphere in the restaurant for all the family.
The bar is very noisy but it was a Saturday evening. We stayed overnight, the bed was very comfortable, a peaceful sleep and a good breakfast!

Stay at the Staindrop on business regularly. I remember first visit being amazed at the size of the rooms. Lots of space and well appointed and hotel has free wi-fi. Breakfast is very good especially Scrambled Egg and Smoked Salmon. I dont pay the bill but would not be disappointed staying here if i did. Only issue is the bathroom was one o fthose where the fan comes on with the light and runs for a few minutes after switching light off. Not good if you want a peaceful bath.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms above reception. Rooms 1- 10

We came for a family dinner. The food was cold and poorly delivered defiantly a few key players from the kitchen team missing. The service staff were more interested in chatting at the till with one another. This place has gone down hill in the past few years time for a management change,

I've now stayed here 3 times for work and will be back.
Staff are excellent, food is good (breakfast excellent) and well priced.
Rooms are spacious and clean, bed is comfortable.
If you are lucky you might get a room with a spar bath, but bathrooms are clean.
Whilst i don't pay the bill, if I stayed here privately I'd be happy witht he VFM!

It has been many years since we last visited, well over 5 and nothing had changed. We did pay for our parents to stay over a year ago and they enjoyed it so recommended it for a place to meet up with others. The rooms are a good size, decorated art deco 1920s style, clean, good storage and with a decent bathroom. Although the bed was hard and the pillows were uncomfortable so I cannot claim to have had a good nights sleep. The brasserie was very busy with many people who eat there regularly and the menu was plentyful with an added specials menu on top. The nibbles platter was great and my main course beat me, too much food but well prepared and very tasty. Although a wedding was on and the brasserie full we had no problem finding a parking space in the free car park. The bar has a good stock of different drinks to choose from an a good wine list too. The bar itself is very modern with the mix of the 1920s furniture however some had seen better days. The wedding taking place in a separate area and the brasserie diners did not encroach on each other apart from people use the brasserie as a cut through to get to the hotel bedrooms rather than use the available door outside the brasserie entrance. Apart from an uncomfortable bed. my only real disappointment, however, not the hotels fault. but would have had a better time if the parents of the young children who spent 15 minutes crying and screaming had been paid some attention rather than ignored at 3.15am, 5am and again at 6.40. Yes we would go back and eat in the brasserie again.

Room Tip: We had room 30 if you want to avoid the hard bed

Large rooms, free wi-fi, but rather dark bathrooms (fake black marble) very friendly local staff. A good bar with 3 real ales on offer, wide wine selection and good service. The brasserie is very good. All food is freshly cooked, good portions, and reasonably priced. The choices range from local favourites (meat and potatoe pie and hendersons relish, fish and chips etc.) through to green lipped mussels and a truly wonderful Tapas selection. Can eat the same food in the bar with Sky Sports as well. Good value and recommended.

Room Tip: The newer block rather than over the bar/brasserie

Were visiting family in Chapeltown, Sheffield and stayed at the Staindrop for one night. What a delightful surprise when we arrived there. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was lovely. We had actually booked a Superior Double and were a little apprehensive when we were given a Standard Double. However we needn't have worried as the room was excellent and terrific value for money. Breakfast was included and again was very good value. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. My only very small grumble is that a larger bed would have been nicer.

Room Tip: If they have one ask for a room with a large double bed.
