“Horrible Breakfast Basic Rooms - expensive”
Reviewed 10 December 2012

We went to a concert in Sheffield, the rooom was basic (no pay for view films etc..), no minibar, the staff were friendly, but the breakfast was pretty horrible. Its amazing how a chef cannot cook something so simple as a full english.

At £120 for the nite it was very poor.

My wife and I don't stay in hotels without the kids so we like it to be a bit special and this was a real let down for us, also Chapeltown is where I was born and the first time I had ever been back for years so spoilt it a little but the concert was great.

An exceptional experience given the cost. We were there one night and would jump at the chance of repeating the experience next time we need to visit Sheffield or the area.
We were greeted at reception like long-lost friends and with no prompting from us were up-graded to an executive room. It (15) was excellent. Huge with king-size bed. Bathroom was sparkling and boasted a large bath with bubble jets. (The only minor fault was the 'stale-water' smell when the jets were turned on.)
The deal (via booking.com) included 10% off dinner and a free bottle of house wine. Service and food were excellent.
Breakfast was terrific - scrambled eggs cooked to order ('soft' as requested) and immaculately presented poached eggs. We didn't have the full-English which was included in the room cost only because we were still full from dinner. As has been mentioned the portions are Yorkshire sized.
All the people working in the hotel were cheery and friendly - I can't over-praise the hospitality we received. It was a model for smaller hotels to follow. This has to be a better alternative than a Sheffield city-centre, impersonal experience.

Room Tip: Room 15 is large 'Executive' but near the party room so could be noisy if there's a wedd...

Just had a nights stay at the Staindrop Lodge. Rooms spacious, clean and light. Paid £65 for double room with full english breakfast. Great value. We had two rooms as we were attending a family gathering. My parents were in the other room and they were more than happy with their room. True praise indeed! Amenities were good, tea and coffee making, irons and flat TV screens with sky sports.
Only minor criticisms were that the shower was weak and the full english breakfast a bit greasy. However the salmon and scrambled egg had enough salmon to feed the five thousand! As I say these are mionor complaints. For the money the place was great value. Would definately stay there again.

Stayed a couple of nights with family to attend our niece's graduation in Sheffield City Hall. Checking in was warm and and efficient delivered with a big smile ans a Northern accent. The room was very clean - the bathroom gleamed! Everything looked new though the building itself is period.

Evening meal (Not everything on the menue was available) was good though the accompanying cabbagy stuff served with the rack of lamb (perfecly cooked) I personally found inedible - it was fibrous and chewy.

We did have to yell at one another over the shrieks and loud laughter of a large gathering in the resaurant. The acoustics are not good for the music playing over the sound system.

Two of us ordered crumble for pudding. (Not everything was available) Be warned - they are of belly busting size. Maybe Yorkshire people like four-portion puddings per person.

Sleep for me was elusive. I found the bed to be of glass block quality. couldn't get comfortable.

Breakfast was very good with a wide choice served by a very jolly and happy waitress whose name I cannot remenber - it began with 'C' something like Corwen or Corwel. Great personality.

A bit far from the city center but a good walking distance from the local rail station with trains every half hour to the city center. Much cheaper alternative to the taxi.

Would stay here again if visiting Sheffield

We recently enjoyed a family celebration meal for my husbands 70th birthday. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. the food is extremely good and was a very comfortable atmosphere in the restaurant for all the family.
The bar is very noisy but it was a Saturday evening. We stayed overnight, the bed was very comfortable, a peaceful sleep and a good breakfast!
Would recommend this hotel

Stay at the Staindrop on business regularly. I remember first visit being amazed at the size of the rooms. Lots of space and well appointed and hotel has free wi-fi. Breakfast is very good especially Scrambled Egg and Smoked Salmon. I dont pay the bill but would not be disappointed staying here if i did. Only issue is the bathroom was one o fthose where the fan comes on with the light and runs for a few minutes after switching light off. Not good if you want a peaceful bath.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms above reception. Rooms 1- 10

We came for a family dinner. The food was cold and poorly delivered defiantly a few key players from the kitchen team missing. The service staff were more interested in chatting at the till with one another. This place has gone down hill in the past few years time for a management change,
