Attended a family wedding here recently. The hotel is wonderful , old little quaint country hotel set in the country side. The hotel has fantastic gardens which were also part of the wedding setting which was great. For an old hotel it was warm considering it rained and the weather was rather chilly. Room was great and bathroom was modern and clean. Only down point down point of the room for me was the bed was too soft, however I understand this is a personal perference. Wifi throughout the hotel on the whole works well can be a little patchy at times. Food was great , breakfast is very well done and generous. Staff on the whole were good however came across one or two who didnt really want to do so much. The service at the bar can be slow. But on the whole a nice stay and a great little hotel.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 14 , could hear the music from weddings in my room which didnt particularly bother me...

Nice period hotel, nestled in beautiful grounds. Rooms well furnished, with real character. Good quality food and attentive but not overbearing service. It was very relaxing to have a cool beer in a summer's evening in the delightful garden. Would advise anyone looking to do business in Sheffield, Rotherham or Barnsley to give it a try. Spot on!

After leaving Sheffield 30 years ago, we were passing through on our return from a visit down South and my daughter booked us in to overnight on the journey home.
The receptionist Laura was fantastic and made us feel so welcome on our easy check-in.
The room was magnificent and reflected the grandeur of the hotel. The bed could have slept four people, the bathroom with over bath shower was amazing.
A welcome small carafe of port was the finishing touch to what can only be described as the perfect accommodation.
We dined in the bar and had a delicious meal obviously prepared by kitchen staff of the highest standard, with ingredients of the highest quality. My venison burger was perfect as was my husbands fish and chips. ( well what else would someone from whitby eat?).
After a very peaceful and comfortable nights sleep, the final overwhelming memory will be of the truly magnificent breakfast. My husband maintains that there were 17 different items on his plate. And the choice of cereals and juices were spectacular. In fact the whole stay was full of superlatives for the staff, hotel and dining experiences. Could not fault the stay and appreciate the return to our stomping grounds of over 30 years ago.. Thanks both to my daughter and the hotel staff for making the end of my southerly visit so memorable.

Room Tip: Had a room on the second floor overlooking the hotel entrance. No complaints at all, no noise.

we attended the John Reilly outdoor concert in the Whitley Hall Hotel grounds. The setting was lovely, there was a BBQ and people had brought outdoor seating. It made for a lovely evening and I do hope Whitley hall hold further outdoor events. The only down side was the limited bar and the price of the drinks. The hotel need to get this right and it would make for a fantastic evening.

It's possibly not the easiest place to find (despite GPS we missed the turning) but well worth the effort. The central part of the hotel is the oldest however each wing has been built sympathetically and the grounds are big enough to relax in without falling over other guests.

Despite there being a wedding on service was efficient and polite, and as the function rooms are at each end of the bullding it kept noise to a minimum. Indeed the loudest thing of the visit was a rather hungry peacock chick sitting under our window.

Restaurant was also of a high standard, and the bar well-stocked too.

I have a feeling we may be back here sooner rather than later :)

After staying at the hotel last year we were eager to book again and we were not disappointed. Although our room was slightly smaller than last year it was well appointed with ice delivered promptly and the staff friendly and efficient. The shower had a small leak from the glass partition but was otherwise functional. The dining food is of a high standard but service may be compromised when a wedding is held as it was on one of the nights we stayed. The bottle of white wine we had pre-dinner had not been chilled and our wait for dinner was delayed, however staff provided an ice bucket full of ice to chill the wine. The outdoor areas provide an excellent peaceful setting and an opportunity to indulge in a lovely afternoon tea.
