“Excellent city centre location”
Reviewed 5 June 2013

This was a long weekend stay , the hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the railway station and in the city centre , the Winter Garden is a must visit attached to the hotel is a planetarium with exotic plants and very relaxing . Lots of bars and cafes restaurants nearby we were on room only as there is lots of choice nearby , the hotel also has much to offer food/drink wise.
Room was very good and kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping team , reception staff were also very helpful and polite specially the manager Sandeep Kainda.
Sleep quality was very good we had a large bedroom with en suite and best of all a Jacuzzi bath , there is a very nice square outside the hotel with fountains to entertain children if weather permits , some of the bedrooms overlook this , we did not check but would be worth enquiring.

Room Tip: did not use spa or restaurant

My partner and I stayed here with the Sa Reviver package. £170 for two treatments, one night stay, breakfast and a three course evening meal. It wa crazy value for money! The hotel is clean and tidy. The room was beautiful and wel kepty. The bathroom had a separate bath to the shower. Very modern. Our room overlooked the Peace Garden fountain which was fantastic! We used the spa when we checked in on the Monday and also before we chekced out on the Tuesday. Excellent value for money. The gym and pool are really nice and the spa area with the steam room etc was great. A shame the Aroma Room wasn't working but it didn't affect the stay one bit. the evening meal was gorgeous food. You would think being part of a package dealthat it would be prtty standard but is was great quality! The breakfast selection is so vast. You would struggle to not find something you like. There was traditional english breakfast, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, cheese, meats, breads, toast.

Two staff members stood out for us on this trip. One was the spa manager who dealt with a price query we had and helped us out greatly, resolving the problem fast and efficiently. He and the other girl in the spa were extremely helpful and so friendly. The other member of staff was Meyur who was our waiter at dinner. He went above and beyond our expectations to serve us our dinner. He was chatty, helpful and friendly. Could not have asked for better service at the dinner!! Eleven out of ten! Made our stay so much more enjoyable! I would recommend this hotel again and again and the main reason for this is the helpful staff! They all seem to go above and beynd to make sure your stay is the best it can be.

The location of the hotel is spot on if you want to do a bit of shopping during your stay and if you don't want to eat on the hotel restaurant there is a great place called Ego next door. Worth a visit!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the fountain!

Great location in the city centre with a wonderful view of the town hall square from the room. We had a "privilege" room on the 5th floor which probably helps but can't comment on the standard rooms. Certain details weren't at the absolute highest standard and quality but nothing major to complain about and all very good for the price and location. The shower head had a bit of a leak but in general the bathroom was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable but the pillows a little flat for me. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We decided against paying the £16.50 (or £10 if notified the night before) for breakfast since there are so many options nearby for a decent breakfast elsewhere.

We spent 2 nights here in May to vist the Sheffield Arena ( we will rock you). From the minute we arrived the customer service was friendly, welcoming and helpful. All queries and requests were met with a smile, a chat and promptly dealt with. The staff took pride in their work and delivered a first class service from the bedroom maids to the reception staff nothing was dealt with without a smile. We had a privedge room which gave us a great view, a huge bed, a few room extras for a small additional fee. The room was spotless, large and airy. The bed was a little too hard for me and my husband but we both suffer neck problems so may be fine for others. The bar area was pleasant and buzzing in a relaxed way and as we had great weather it was great to sit on the patio area with a glass of wine and watch the world go by. If you do not know Sheffeild centre well it is a delight. Lots of imaginatively developed public space, some great places to eat and drink and lots of culture too. Thank you Mercure St. Paul's for a memorable weekend

I have state at the mecure for work on many occasions and can see why people like and dislike the hotel. When it comes to the location it's perfectly centred in town.
The rooms are aging and the carpet has been quite bubbled. Showers and bathroom are spot on but beds are quite hard and not as comfy as you would want when you pay that much.
Loved the breakfast and the champagne bar also

This was a gift from a member of the family. Free entry to the Spa and Pool facility within the Hotel complex. Sadly for the best part of the time I was there only two from the four spa thermal rooms were working. Eventually the Steam room became operational but the Aromatherapy room stayed out of action.
The pool facility was very pleasant as was the Ice House. Robes and slippers were not part of our package and were not offered. If they would have been we would have purchased them. I would recommend using both as it is more comfortable when moving about the spa. Just the use of a towel is not sufficient.
I would go again but I am not sure if would pay the going rate?
