First I must say the rooms are extremely clean and well-appointed. However, on arrival the staff attempted to charge me twice (our group leader had already paid). Moreover DON'T eat in the restaurant. It took an hour for our first course to arrive. An hour after that and the main course hasn't arrived. One of our number went to get snacks from our rooms we were so hungry. Disappointed to say the least.

Really welcoming staff whose manner came across as sincere and warm. The man at breakfast (didn't catch his name) was particularly good, as my six year old was a bit reluctant to come into the dining area and he showed us to a "special" table. The variety for breakfast was excellent, the scrambled eggs the best warmed-over buffet breakfast scrambled eggs I have had! The black pudding not so much - it was rock solid, definitely overcooked, which is a shame as I (as a southerner) always look forward to good northern black pudding. The room was comfortable, with a huge window looking onto the winter gardens roof. The beds felt in need of replacing but weren't too bad for a single night, The spa staff were helpful and professional. I always feel a little uneasy staying with a child at a hotel primarily frequented by adults/couples, but the staff made us feel welcome and at ease, even when we went down to use the spa pool. If I return to Sheffield (for business or pleasure, with or without children) I will stay at the Mercure!

Room Tip: 108 was good - the view if of the winter gardens roofscape (quite attractive).

This hotel is in the perfect position to visit Sheffield city centre. Situated between the Peace Gardens and the Winter Gardens it is within walking distance of all attractions including theatres and the best shops, bars and restaurants.

The hotel itself has a lively bar, and an 'Ego Mediterranean' restaurant attached. The rooms are clean and functional with good views over the city, though the decor is a bit bland and unimaginative.

Overall a great choice for a business or leisure visit.

Room Tip: Asalways, higher floors have the best views, to the front the Peace Gardens and Town Hall, to the re...

An overnight stay in a preferencial room including breakfast for less than 100 pounds was extremely good value. We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions as the service, Will return and recomend.

This is an efficient business hotel in a prime location and an excellent place to relax after work.
Only downsides I could spot were overpriced water, and a gym that opens a little late to fit with breakfast and a prompt start on site.
