Our stay at the Mercure in Sheffield was a really pleasant experience. So close to the bustling city centre, which is a plus.

From checking in – the staff were very efficient and friendly. The room was beautiful, very spacious and nice view out of the sitting room window. The staff should be commended on the cleanliness of the room and hotel.

The staff at breakfast were helpful, finding us a table and bringing either tea or coffee very quickly. The choice was really good from cereal, fruit, to a fully cooked full English.

Must say a big ‘thank you’ to Phil the concierge for his helpfulness throughout our stay.

We would not hesitate to book into the Mercure next time we are in Sheffield. A most enjoyable experience.

Stayed here just after Christmas when visiting family and was impressed. We have stayed at a number of Sheffield hotels over the years and I think this is the best. We had a very spacious room looking over the Peace Gardens, great location in central Sheffield, excellent bar and overall service. I did have a sloping bed which I complained about and the mattress was replaced (still not much better), but apart from that I have no complaints. We would stay here again.

My husband and I were guests at a wedding in Sheffield so booked this hotel as it was close to the wedding venue it could not have been more perfect. The room was beautifully presented extemely comfortable and the view of the Peace Garden lit up at night was stunning. The choice for breakfast was extensive more than enough to suit all tastes, the staff were always attentive but not intrusive. The staff on reception were extemely helpful all in all an excellent stay I have already recommended it to friends.

I booked a package which included spa treatment, dinner bed and breakfast as a Christmas gift for my other half. We are from Sheffield so it was strange to look out of our hotel room and see the Peace Gardens all lit up for Christmas not seen from above before.
Room was lovely and large - had everything we needed. Carpet was badly fitting with big ridges across the room - this needs fixing as it was a trip hazard. Bathroom with bath and separate shower. Nice TV, selection of teas and coffees, flapjacks nice touch. Decor very plain and bland with no luxurious touches so not very homely or comfy, just very unimaginative. We were given robes and slippers and went down to the pool - pool was disappointing very cold water and just plain with no luxurious touches to the decor. Only 3 loungers. Spa area had a good selection of facilities, steam room, sauna, aroma room, ice room, nice shower. The level of cleanliness was not as high as I expected and some of the tiles were missing or dirty. Again not many loungers to sit and relax and the public areas were very small so you didn't want to hang around in the spa. We went upstairs for a full body massage treatment which was lovely. The sitting area near the treatment rooms was relaxing with a good coffee machine. Dinner in the restaurant was from a restricted menu as part of the package so it was disappointing that one of the starters we chose was then not available. The dining room looked out over the Winter gardens which was all lit up with fairy lights and very pretty. However it was very cold with a cold draught blowing through and not pleasant to sit. The food portions were not huge but nicely cooked and well presented. We opted for pie which is a speciality of the house and this came with gorgeous mustard mash. The sharing pudding was not large but very good and we happy with the service, but did get a bit fed up of being asked if everything was ok. We moved to the lounge area for coffees and liqueurs but this was even colder so retreated to our room for some warmth!
Bed lovely and comfy, nice large room with good view. Breakfast was hot and cold buffet, nicely cooked and lots of everything. Plenty of places to sit and attentive staff. Overall a good experience. Very handy for visiting central Sheffield shopping, theatres etc as everything in the city centre is within close walking distance. Would stay here again but probably not bother with the pool.
Best place to park is the Q park "Cheese Grater" car park virtually next door and they will give you a 25% off parking voucher if you ask.

We lived the hotel. We arrived on Christmas Day to a huge Christmas tree in the beautiful lobby and gentle Christmas songs being played by a pianist. It was perfect.
We were quickly checked in and given directions to our room. The room was enormous and had an amazing view of the town hall and fountains. The facilities in the room were also very good with a lovely espresso maker with a choice of 3 coffees.
We spent the evening in the bar which had a lovely ambiance and was beautifully lit.
We woke up early in the morning to use the spa facilities but unfortunately the pool was out of order and was not ready for use before our check out time. This was the only disappointment we experienced during our stay. It did slightly did the shine off our time there as I only booked the Mercure over the other hotels on the basis that we could swim before check out at 12 pm.
Overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it to others.

We stayed Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and had a fantastic time. All the staff were friendly and unceasingly helpful and there were always smiles and cheerful greetings as we passed the reception desk. One member of staff (Phil) was especially helpful, taking time to see how we were getting on and delighting our grandchildren with a gift of some sweets on Christmas Day.

The hotel itself was very good. The room was well decorated and had the feel of an up-market hotel and the bed was large and comfortable. The spa facilities were good and we particularly enjoyed the dry sauna, the steam room and the aroma room but decided to give the ice shower experience a miss.

The location is excellent and we enjoyed a walk through the Winter Gardens and the small squares and gardens around the hotel.

It was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel (to drop off the luggage) because of the one-way systems so it is worth reading and following the directions on the hotel website. Parking is at a near-by car park but the hotel gives you a token so it only costs £6.50 for a 24 hour period.

All in all we had a fantastic time and would definitely stay there again.
