Recent one night stay, we had two rooms in our party, both privilege rooms.

The weather was hot and the rooms overlooking the Peace gardens had the sun shining straight in making them hot. Not the hotel's fault.

Aircon in one room worked OK, in the other it was virtually inoperative. Even leaving the key card in continuously, so the aircon did not shut off when we left the room, the temperature never got down to approaching comfortable, bearable just, a poor night sleep, which was a shame as the bed was comfortable and linen of high quality.

Of course the soft drinks are inclusive, but not cold as the fridge wasn't working. When questioned about this reception claimed that the previous owners of the hotel had left the fridge cases but removed all the workings. Strange as it was plugged in and there was a temperature control dial inside. Plus the fridge in the other room worked fine. Oh and why have ice buckets when there are no ice machines?

The other room had the advertised Nespresso machine but not this one.

Then the smell in the bathroom, not sure what going on with the drains but it took a fair bit of water down the bath and shower to reduce it, even with the extractors on.

All these issues were raised with reception for attention.

Other than that everything clean, modern, staff very friendly and helpful apart from the misleading answer about the fridge. Good breakfast, definitely better than average.

Not worth the money frankly, despite the location, and lack of car park compared to other Sheffield hotels we have used.

Afterwards we got an email for feedback. Click the link , get a 404 error, page not found. Sort of sums it up really,

Very disappointing. We will not be back.

After a not so perfect hotel in London, we were swept away by this one. It was perfect. Not a hitch.

Counter staff were always one step ahead of use, friendly and offering advice even before we asked.

The rooms are large, perfect for doing business and unwinding. The hotel location is center city, which is also a college town, so there is a lot of activity and very interesting places to eat and relax.

We ate at the Ego, attached to the hotel. The menu is middle eastern. Try the Moroccan lamb cooked in a clay pot. For dessert you have to try the Summer Fruit Eton Mess. Photo below.

Walk the greenhouse area next to the hotel. I would love to see it in the snow.

Room Tip: Get up high so you can see the surrounding country side and the medieval town below.

I stayed at the Sheffield Mercure Tuesday evening this week – July 22. I wanted to say how disappointed I was with the breakfast. The girl who seated us was pretty cursory. I ordered Eggs Florentine, which never showed up; it turned out that the chef had not picked up the order from the counter; the coffee was dire – why was it in a cafetiere – it didn’t need to be – it was just some very generic – old, acidic – concoction – certainly not fresh. An unnecessary pretentious touch. The cooked buffet was a sad looking collection of tired baked beans, fried eggs and sausages and mushrooms that one would expect at any transport cafe. Very average bread, long opened jams – and this was all at 8am. It can only have got worse later in the morning. The ‘chef’ also seemed excessively cheerless, actually would have had trouble being that morose in a transport cafe. Altogether I felt completely cheated and disappointed that I had bothered to pay for two breakfasts. This is not good enough. Four star! This what bad B and B’s were thirty years ago.

Stayed over here on 19th July for a hen - 13 of us in total.
The hotel was lovely - the staff at reception were very welcoming and all the rooms were ready before check in which was nice.
The staff at the bar were also very good considering there was 13 of us ordering different drinks and food and wanting to pay separately.
The staff in the spa were very good - I had a pedicure with my sister and the 2 ladies (sarah & Shannon) were nice and chatty and made us feel welcome.
The evening meal was fantastic and the fact we were all on the same table for breakfast aswell was a very nice touch.
Would definitely stay again - the staff to the location was just brilliant.

I organised a group booking for two nights and found both facilities and service first class. Sheffield has had some significant regeneration in the last ten years, and through both its design and customer experience, the Mercure hotel is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of the new development!

Our rooms were clean and spacious, likewise facilities were excellent giving bars for the boys, spas for the girls and plenty of room for little ones to runabout. In addition, the breakfasts were a particular highlight, offering great choice, quality and ambiance which ensured a postive start to each day.

A word as well for the staff - everybody we encountered from concierge to reception to bar staff to housekeeping were tremendously helpful and attentive to our group's needs. They added so much value to our stay and seemed a genuinely nice team who supported each other.

Overall, the hotel is a real find, and delivers that all-too-rare experiance of a classy getaway which many hotels promise, but few deliver. We shall definitely be returning to the Mercure, and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Peace Gardens
