This is a lovely little place, not primarily a cafe, it's a shop with a back room dining area. But it somehow transcends those limitations. It's a cosy little nook. In the Winter they light a fire. In the summer you can eat outside in the lovely garden. There are interesting paintings and photographs on the walls that nicely contribute to the Harry Potteresque atmosphere. For this is - primarily - a pagan oriented shop that sells trinkets and paraphernalia, cards and posters, books and magazines of an alternative spirituality. They also have the prettiest website I have ever seen!
But once drawn inside by these esoterica, one discovers a little kitchen that offers not only tea, coffee and cake, but actual meals. Now this is notionally 'self-service', but in practice, if you order a meal rather than just tea and cake, it is brought to your table. You do not have to wait long either, so I have given them five stars for service. The food is vegetarian and vegan, of course, but delightful. It is inventive and varied although - this being a small place - the scope is limited, because they wisely, concentrate on doing a few things very well. You can enjoy a bowl of yummy minestrone soup with parmesan or a delicious piece of rhubarb cake and a drink for just £1.95. Or, for only a little more, you can eat a filling meal with a salad - and I don't mean just a lettuce leaf and a tomato; I mean a proper salad. The soups are made from organic ingredients and the bread is fresh baked from Cat Lane Bakery. Yum yum yum!
The atmosphere is so friendly and the staff are so warm and helpful that it is more like visiting a friend. They even provide free WiFi - something which other, larger places in the same category do not.
The food is lovingly, and individually prepared, and the price (as I demonstrated above) is within anyone's budget. There is a choice of different teas and coffees. Every time I have been there I have been surprised by how good their food is. It's a place that casts its spell over you and you leave with a smile and a spring in your step.
