Went here for a Groupon stop for our Pearl wedding anniversary.
Reception staff very friendly and efficient, we were allocated a ground floor room (patio overlooking the lake), but asked if we could move to a higher room as we preferred to leave the patio doors open overnight (due to the unseasonably warm summer weather!)
No problem doing this and moved to 337 which was on the same level as reception and a really nice room - large bed, sitting area, balcony about 3.5 m square - plenty big enough for two with a good view of the lake/grounds.
Chilled bottle of white wine and chocolates in the room, good size TV with enough channels.
Visited the spa/pool before dinner. Small pool ( no problem as we are not training for the Commonwealth Games) Sauna and steam room hot and clean plus Jacuzzi.
Evening meal menu was smaller than the standard, but enough choice for us - staff polite and efficient.
Really lovely grounds and lake to stroll round after the meal - the newer parts of the building follow the same architectural style and stone of the original 150 year old hall and blend In really well.
Good choice at breakfast - although had to ask for more plates!
Near to the city, though you would not know it, 10 min drive to the main shopping area - could have walked!
Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: 337, nice room plus good view down to the lake.

Thank you for your extensive review of the hotel.
I am pleased that you were able to take full advantage of all of the hotel facilities and we were able to move you to a higher floor upon request

The hotel is indeed a hidden gem set in 11 acres of land with views over the ground and lake it is hard to believe we are within 5 minutes of the busy city centre

We had a nice room (no fridge as they'd been recalled but that was fine). Staff very helpful. The only thing that spoiled the stay was the girls next door in room 304, who came in banging the door at 5 am then squealed, laughed and talked loudly for 45 minutes. Not the hotel's fault.

The grounds of this hotel are wonderful, but unfortunately the rest of the hotel was not well maintained - I will say that the staff were all very nice, and the location is great, but the room was a disaster - bathroom was not clean, (the toilet was very stained, the shower curtain horrible, grime all around the bath) and the window was almost falling out of its frame. We left immediately, and I am happy to say we had no trouble getting our money back. I could not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thank you for your comments although very disappointed with your review
I apologise that you had problems with your bedroom, cleanliness and standards as I am unaware anyone checking out of the hotel regarding this. Whilst we are not modern and purpose built we rarely have poor feedback regarding the overall cleanliness and I have passed your comments to the management team for further investigation as this is not the impression we would want to give

Nice hotel with good breakfast. Pool small, really for kids only. Gym is ok. Room facilities good and staff friendly. Lovely area at back with lake and lawn. Overall a pleasant if not outstanding venue.

We were here for a family wedding and as a wedding venue it is lovely. Beautiful grounds with fantastic views of the city in the background. Gardens are colourful (although summer bedding planting a bit 'municipal') but a bit gaudy in my opinion. The marriage room is a reasonable size holding 50 people with a beautiful ceiling and fireplace. The function room we had was also very nice although a bit tight for the numbers. Staff were efficient and friendly throughout the well organised wedding. The room we had which was a superior twin was well decorated and modern. Had plenty of accessible sockets, tv, kettle, hairdryer, ironing board etc. The bathroom let it down. It wasn't that clean with mould around fittings, the shower screen didn't fit well and subsequently water from the shower got onto the floor. The door jamb was broken. The bathroom radiator had obviously had a leak at some point and there was a large rust mark. Plenty of nice toiletries and the towels were clean and very absorbent. In general the room was OK but the bathroom was a disappointment. The beds were comfortable and the view was good. I'm sure there wasn't any air conditioning so could be very hot as the window only opened a few inches (for safety reasons I think). The room was overlooking the grounds at the back and was quiet. Reception staff very helpful. Breakfast delicious and Violet was a lovely waitress.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back but away from the function rooms if there is a wedding going on as you might experience noise from a disco.
