We wanted somewhere peaceful but not too far from city centre. This hotel is in a stunniong location, rooms very comfortable, excellent breakfast, and with the special rates fantastic value for money.

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night Dinner, Bed and Breakfast weekend at Kenwood Hall and we were very, very impressed by everything.
We had never even heard of the hotel and found it when trawling the Internet as we could not get a room at our usual "bolthole", the Majestic at Harrogate. The tripadvisor reviews were mostly good so we decided to book.
The hotel is situated just outside the city centre and we couldn't believe how it went from urban to tranquil in a matter of 100 metres. We arrived at 6pm on the Friday evening and were booked in straight away having confirmed that we were D, B&B. The gentleman on reception was very polite and, having confirmed our dinner reservation, pointed us to our room.
The room was basic (standard room had been booked so no real surprise). The only faults we could really find with it (room 235 by the way) was the fact that the grouting and sealant round the bath had seen better days and made it appear grubby. The room had a door adjoining it to room 233 and we did not know how "unprivate" the room became until the guests in room 233 came in at 11.30pm. Every word could be heard as if they were sat next to us.....luckily, they did not make much noise and it did not spoil the night. However, if it had been the opposite, I could see that the noise would be a problem.
The bed was HUGE and exceptionally comfortable with loads of really soft pillows. The room was warm and well equipped with Tea & Coffee, hairdryer, trouser press etc. No mini bar but this did not matter to us. The water was piping hot all the time which was great.
After a little confusion over menus, we ordered and enjoyed a wonderful meal. The drinks and food are quite pricey but that's what we expected anyway. Service always came with a smile from the staff who were very efficient and eager to please. The second night in the restaurant also gave us another fantastic meal (you must have the braised steak!!!) and friendly, efficient staff. I managed to launch a full glass jug of water over the floor, smashing it into a thousand pieces but straight away it was cleared up by the staff with no moans and groans.
The breakfast at The Kenwood is very good. Fresh fruits, cereals and the usual "full english" food with lovely views across the grounds to the lake. Again, the staff (some of whom were from the evening restaurant) were happy and smiling.
We used the Gym and the pool on the Saturday and could not fault it. It had a good selection of cardio-vascular equipment as well as weights and sit-up mat. The pool, albeit small, is very warm and inviting - as was the Jacussi. Towels are provided for guests and the changing areas were very clean with lockers provided (£1 returnable deposit).
We went shopping to the nearby Lakeside Village (Jct 3 M18) which only took 30 minutes. We did not get time to sample any of the local nearby restaurants but we had not planned to do much more than relax in the hotel and the bar.
The cost of the 2 nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast was £238 with £45 allowed per couple each night towards dinner. The total cost for us, with all meals, drinks and newspapers was just over £300 which we thought was very good value for money considering the excellent food - some of the best we have tasted..on a par with the Majestic at Harrogate (perhaps even a little better). I booked direct with the Hotel but most companies charge the same rate.
Overall, Kenwood Hall was a very pleasant surprise. We had been very disappointed at not being able to get booked into the Majestic but then again, if we had done, we would not have discovered this hidden gem. We will certainly return again and highly recommend it.

We were students in Sheffield in the late 70's and wanted to go back to visit the pubs and reataurents in Eccleshall Road. The hotel is within very easy walking distance, although it is all up hill on the way back!

The hotel is situated in lovely grounds and is so quiet, it is hard to believe you are so close to the city centre. The bedroom was as you would expect, with a small seating area, tea and coffe making facilities, iron etc. The bed was large and very comfortable, so had a very good nights sleep.

the one thing that did stand out for me was the friendliness of the staff, that seemed genuine and not at all 'forced'.

The breakfast buffet was very good, and was a very relaxed and civilised affair, not like sitting in a large cafeteria, that some hotels manage.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay, and would definately go back.

Booked the hotel through late rooms.com. On arrival the staff were very friendly and swift at getting us to our room, which was located just above reception. The room was very clean and spacious. The swimming pool and gym were great although we only stopped for one night so didnt get to use it much! Breakfast was great, lots of variety. Would definatley return to this hotel. (We even had the odd footballer staying at the same time!!)

Start with the price - 3 night stays at under £60 a night for a spacious clean double, including breakfast, in park-like surroundings, yet very conveniently located. And everything seemed to work OK, though I did have to ask for my free bottle of wine!

So perhaps not 5*, but really remarkable value and much better than most hotels which have much higher prices.

I chose this hotel for two reasons, firstly it was close to the Abbeydale Road, and secondly it had internet access so I could complete some work when I got there. The location was fine, but the internet didn't work, which was annoying. The staff were as helpful as they could be without actually solving the problem.

The hotel looks a little tired, like most in the UK these days there is a lot of scuffed paintwork, cracked porcelain and dusty corners, I found a hair slide on the floor in my room which suggests a lack of attention by the housekeeping staff, and the bathroom was a bit tatty. Still, the room was big and the bed clean and comfortable.

Breakfast was a good buffet with plenty of choice, no complaints there, and enough staff to deal with everyone.

I paid £70 for a night here, and I think that's decent value *except* for the lack of internet.

Stayed at the hotel as a last minute one night break. I used to be a student in Sheffield and wanted to go back to visit the Eccleshall Road area. The hotel is in a great location and you can walk to the shops, bars and restaurants on Eccleshall Road. We only booked the week before and paid about £70 which could explain why we seemed to be in the wedding section of the hotel - not a problem for us, but might have been for the couple who were having their reception as we had to walk through the hall area each time we wanted to leave the hotel or use the hotel facilities! It did feel a little like we were intruding on their wedding and i supspect we were given a room that had been overbooked for the wedding guests. Other than this the hotel was fine. We used the pool, steam room and jacuzzi and these facilities were fine. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful. The beds were comfy and the room reasonably well decorated and very clean, although the bathrooms looked a little tired. Overall we found the hotel comfortable, but i agree with other reviews that the new company dont seem to be doing much with it at present and this could be a problem in the future.
