Stayed at this hotel for one night. nice location, great pool, but the hotel, rooms etc are far overdue for a makeover. I am assuming thats why is't no longer a Marriott. Its a very tired and worn hotel. Staff were great, but the fact that the hotel was a falling apart didn't make me want to go back

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback following your recent stay with us.

I was pleased to read that you had enjoyed some elements of your stay, such as the Pool and the service from our team. But obvioulsy disappointed by your comments relating to the decor of the hotel.

The hotel is decorated in a traditional style, which can appear dated when compared against other modern and contemporary hotels. We have recently completed the first phase of our refurbishment programme, which has seen the Old house of the hotel renovated to is former glory.

I hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to Kenwood Hall on your next visit to Sheffield

Regards

Andrew Wright

We stay in Sheffield often and usually stay at the Mercure in the City Centre which is a good hotel if you do not have a car .We tried the Kenwood as the website showed nice photo's of the gardens and it also has a pool and gym.The rate was £70 room /bfast and a complimantary bottle of wine which is a nice touch .We very much enjoyed this hotel ....not as modern as the Mercure but lovely grounds and nice leisure pool and gym.We would definitely stay here again when we have a car with us .It is a bit too far out of the city without a care but the upside is the lovely country house feel when only 5 minutes by car from the town .
Upsides : Pool and gym, really lovely grounds ,good staff ,decent sized rooms ,lovely comforable beds and pillows ,free parking, nice breakfast included in room price ,quiet despite a wedding taking place
small downsides : carpet on our corridor pretty worn, no fridge in room , very hot at night
On balance we would now prefer this hotel to the Mercure unless travelling without a car and then we would use the Mercure .

I attended a conference in Sheffield and wanted somewhere quiet to stay, Kenwood Hall Hotel was perfect. Not too far from the University and city centre yet it feels like you are in the countryside. There is plenty of parking, a huge bonus for a city hotel. The communal areas are comfortable and well laid out. The dining room overlooks the lake and grounds and is very peaceful. The breakfast is hot and cold buffet style and there is plenty of choice. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a large twin room, two armchairs, coffee table and a writing desk, overlooking the lake and grounds. The bathroom was large, plenty of shelf space and huge fluffy white towels. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were very soft. I booked my room through Eurobookings and secured a great rate. I would recommend this hotel and will stay again when next in Sheffield and next time I will take my swimming costume - great pool :-)

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night Dinner, Bed and Breakfast weekend at Kenwood Hall and we were very, very impressed by everything.
We had never even heard of the hotel and found it when trawling the Internet as we could not get a room at our usual "bolthole", the Majestic at Harrogate. The tripadvisor reviews were mostly good so we decided to book.
The hotel is situated just outside the city centre and we couldn't believe how it went from urban to tranquil in a matter of 100 metres. We arrived at 6pm on the Friday evening and were booked in straight away having confirmed that we were D, B&B. The gentleman on reception was very polite and, having confirmed our dinner reservation, pointed us to our room.
The room was basic (standard room had been booked so no real surprise). The only faults we could really find with it (room 235 by the way) was the fact that the grouting and sealant round the bath had seen better days and made it appear grubby. The room had a door adjoining it to room 233 and we did not know how "unprivate" the room became until the guests in room 233 came in at 11.30pm. Every word could be heard as if they were sat next to us.....luckily, they did not make much noise and it did not spoil the night. However, if it had been the opposite, I could see that the noise would be a problem.
The bed was HUGE and exceptionally comfortable with loads of really soft pillows. The room was warm and well equipped with Tea & Coffee, hairdryer, trouser press etc. No mini bar but this did not matter to us. The water was piping hot all the time which was great.
After a little confusion over menus, we ordered and enjoyed a wonderful meal. The drinks and food are quite pricey but that's what we expected anyway. Service always came with a smile from the staff who were very efficient and eager to please. The second night in the restaurant also gave us another fantastic meal (you must have the braised steak!!!) and friendly, efficient staff. I managed to launch a full glass jug of water over the floor, smashing it into a thousand pieces but straight away it was cleared up by the staff with no moans and groans.
The breakfast at The Kenwood is very good. Fresh fruits, cereals and the usual "full english" food with lovely views across the grounds to the lake. Again, the staff (some of whom were from the evening restaurant) were happy and smiling.
We used the Gym and the pool on the Saturday and could not fault it. It had a good selection of cardio-vascular equipment as well as weights and sit-up mat. The pool, albeit small, is very warm and inviting - as was the Jacussi. Towels are provided for guests and the changing areas were very clean with lockers provided (£1 returnable deposit).
We went shopping to the nearby Lakeside Village (Jct 3 M18) which only took 30 minutes. We did not get time to sample any of the local nearby restaurants but we had not planned to do much more than relax in the hotel and the bar.
The cost of the 2 nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast was £238 with £45 allowed per couple each night towards dinner. The total cost for us, with all meals, drinks and newspapers was just over £300 which we thought was very good value for money considering the excellent food - some of the best we have tasted..on a par with the Majestic at Harrogate (perhaps even a little better). I booked direct with the Hotel but most companies charge the same rate.
Overall, Kenwood Hall was a very pleasant surprise. We had been very disappointed at not being able to get booked into the Majestic but then again, if we had done, we would not have discovered this hidden gem. We will certainly return again and highly recommend it.

We were students in Sheffield in the late 70's and wanted to go back to visit the pubs and reataurents in Eccleshall Road. The hotel is within very easy walking distance, although it is all up hill on the way back!

The hotel is situated in lovely grounds and is so quiet, it is hard to believe you are so close to the city centre. The bedroom was as you would expect, with a small seating area, tea and coffe making facilities, iron etc. The bed was large and very comfortable, so had a very good nights sleep.

the one thing that did stand out for me was the friendliness of the staff, that seemed genuine and not at all 'forced'.

The breakfast buffet was very good, and was a very relaxed and civilised affair, not like sitting in a large cafeteria, that some hotels manage.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay, and would definately go back.
