Meadow Inn & Steakhouse
Ranked #6 of 10 Ironbridge B&B and Inns
Reviewed 18 July 2012

We booked a double room at The Meadow inn as we were celebrating my birthday and our anniversary. When we arrived we were shown to our accommodation which turned out to be a flat and It needed considerable attention to the decor. We specifically booked a room as we wanted the feel of being in a hotel, instead we felt like we were sleeping at a friends place!! I will say that it was quite clean which was a redeeming feature but never the less it was not what we booked. we did ask if there had been a mistake but was told no. The flat is ideal for a small family who are looking for self catering accommodation however there is a cooker but no fridge. Also if you are over 5' 10" it will not be suitable as it has very low ceilings, My husband is 6' 2" and was constantly banging his head and having to duck everywhere. The pub itself is very nice and is in a beautiful location, it has a beer garden on the river and you can take a walk along the river from here which is well worthwhile. We had an evening meal in the pub as they had a Monday night offer which is 2 grills and a bottle of wine for £23 which seemed fantastic value but when the meals arrived they were very poor. However we did have breakfast the next day which is cooked by someone different and it was fantastic, in fact the only redeeming fact of the whole stay was the lovely lady who cooks said breakfast (Val) as she is also the one who dealt with our complaint and she really was great, very apologetic and understanding and the rest of the staff would do well to take a note out of her book.

My partner and I decided to visit the meadow one night as we had not been there for a period of time and not since the new owners took over. Upon arriving the pub was very busy so we suggested that we'd have a drink outside while they lay a table for us and that if someone came out with a menu we'd be ready to order when we got inside. Through the window we could see empty tables that needed cleaning but the staff seemed to be more interested in having a gossip behind the bar. After finishing our drinks we went back inside to be sat a table with menus that still wasnt clean. Seconds after the waitress gave us the menus and walked away another one came over to take our order and seemed shocked that we werent ready?! Before telling us it was nearly 9pm and the chef wanted to go home. Which if they had told us this before and remembered to bring us menus I wouldnt have been so annoyed at the staff and their rude behaviour. After deciding what to order we were then told that our choices were sold out! Again something they should have told us! After a disappointing meal they also tried to charge us for a peroni we didnt have as well as trying to charge us for a brand of beer that we didnt ask for because she didnt realise what glass she was using. Seriously? The staff here need retraining and a lesson in manners! I must say that I wont be going back in a hurry.

I write this review having been woken up at 6.45am, after a poor nights sleep, with the sound of things being thrown into metallic bins with no consideration for guests! As mentioned in other reviews, the sound travels and other guests slamming doors etc.. can be irritating, as can the creaking floorboards!

Our first impression of the accommodation was of a lovely room which has clearly been refurbished recently, however, though this refurbishment has not reached the bathroom!

Another faux-pas was the fact that they had left the windows open all day before our arrival and as such there were several bugs & flies in the room.

The restaurant is superb, well worth returning to and highly recommended!
The Inn needs more attention to detail!

We'd return for the food but not the Inn.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for an upstairs room.

Dear Tony_from_surrey

Thank you for leaving us a review for the accommodation side of the Inn as well as the restaurant. We understand that whilst you enjoyed the food, we can imagine being woken so early in the morning is not acceptable, for which we would like to sincerely apologise. As you can imagine, there is a lot of external noise that is entirely beyond our control sadly.

We also take on board your comments regarding the bathroom, which we will look to improve.

Thank you again for leaving us the review and we do hope to see you again soon.

Best Wishes,

Cath, Ken and all at the Meadow Inn.

We had a lovely meal, unfortunatly the service was awful. It took nearly an hour for our order to be taken, then several items were missing. When we asked the staff, we questioned very rudely "are you sure that's included" When the missing food did finally turn up it was dumped on the table with no apology! We asked to speak to the manager regarding the staff's lack of manners and were basically told I'm not interested, the manager did not even apologise, very disappointing!

As the title suggests, the Meadow has changed hands (day before Mother's Day 2012) and in some respects this is obvious. It has the feel of staff who are very friendly, polite and busy but who are still "finding their feet". Some of the items on the menu have changed and for the better in my opinion. I stopped frequenting this place because the menu was a bit restricted if you didn't fancy a steak (yes, I know it's a steakhouse but sometimes you like to try different things).

Anyway, we ordered baked camembert which was piping hot and tasty. We both had a ribeye which was actually cooked EXACTLY as I had asked for it - I'm afraid that's a rarity these days. All the accompaniments were delicious and well worth the money at £48 for two mains, shared starter and two pints. I think the new owners should do well, the produce is of a very good standard and hopefully they still shop local as the previous owners did. It would be very difficult to go wrong in such beautiful surroundings.

I'd heartily recommend this place to friends, good atmosphere, good locale and good food.

We are delighted to hearyou like the slight changes to the menu and were pleased that you felt the meal represented good value, too.

We expected the usual pub grub at 2 for £12 and were very happy to see the menu was excellent. I had a 4oz steak for a sauce of my choice and potatoes cooked in a sauce. It was just enough for a lunch time and very tasty. My husband had the fish and chips. The fish was not cod or haddock. Can't remember the name but the waitress said that if he didn't like it she would bringe something else. He thought it was very tasty. The service was also excellent. Would give them 10 out of 10.

3 of us stopped for lunch on saturday, there were plenty of cars in the car park which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the cask beer "Tom Fool" was well presented and very tasty.
Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectation. The cheddar with damson jam sandwich was made with grated cheese and very dry bread. The accompanying chips and salad were ok.
Not somewhere I would visit again or recommend to a friend.
