Best Western Valley Hotel
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Ironbridge
Certificate of Excellence

Have just returned from a stay at this superb hotel. Situated in a great location within easy walking distance of Ironbridge the hotel is also located by the River Severn with easy access to a leisure park and riverside walk through the hotel grounds. The hotel, and rooms, are furnished to a very high standard with obvious redecoration throughout and the staff provide a very friendly and welcoming service.
The restaurant rightly deserves its 2** awards with excellent meals beautifully presented, and a buffet breakfast catering for all tastes. There was nothing to be faulted here and can be thoroughly recommended for long or short stays.

Booked at the last minute and did not know what to expect regarding the room. However, we got a room in the modern extension part of the hotel which was very large, spotlessly clean with one of the biggest beds that I have ever slept in – and very comfortable. Everything seemed new and everything worked. Nice balcony (overlooking the staff car park but you can't have everything!). If there is a grouse here - the bath could have had a Grab Handle to help steady oneself getting in and out of the shower. Room was very quiet with no disturbance although this hotel is a popular wedding venue - fortunately no weddings on when we were there.
Breakfast was brilliant. The self service cereals and fruit starters had a large selection. The ‘full English’ was piping hot, freshly cooked, delicious and the quantity meant that we did not need lunch. Plenty of toast, tea and coffee available.
Dinner at the Chez Maw was exceptional and the quality and service well deserving of the two rosettes. If it's fast food in a bright noisy atmosphere that you want, or hungry children to feed - forget this place. For a relaxed meal in a subdued illuminated room and food that you want to linger over, this is the place to go. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and this meal was very good value. Window tables set for two are the best tables.
Check in and checkout extremely efficient.
Hotel has lovely grounds sweeping down to the river.
Staff very friendly and all seemed to know what they were doing.
Large car park with easy access and exit.
Our experience of the hotel was such that we think it one of the better hotels that we have stayed at but be aware that a few rooms in this hotel do not have outside views. I think that the architect must have designed cruise liners! Fortunately, we got the outside superior cabin with balcony. Also, anyone with a mobility problem should check with the hotel before booking. There are many steps to negotiate and I don’t know if there is wheelchair access for some rooms. I didn’t notice if there is a lift.
Location for the museums is perfect with most in healthy walking distance - needed to work off those breakfasts. Follow the 'walking' signs that direct you via foot paths or quiet country lanes and away from the separately signposted car routes. A car is only really necessary to get to the Bliss Hill Victorian Village unless you really enjoy hiking. Driving everywhere will mean that you get to see the museums much more quickly but you will miss the lovely countryside. It will take three full days to see everything if walking - two or less if driving everwhere.

booked into this hotel on spec as our original hotel had double booked us. we found it to be excellent for our needs and all the staff were friendly and helpful. food was lovely and the gounds and park next to it were beautiful. there were two weddings on when we stayed but there was no disruption to our stay at all. we had room service which was quick and very tasty. all in all a nice place to stay and would stay there again.

I stayed three nights in the main house. The house is situated in extensive grounds, sweeping down to the river Severn, with a nice terrace looking towards the river. There is a large, free car park. Check in was effortless: I cannot say the same about the slog up to the top floor, through several fire doors, and passage ways! The room was clean, reasonably well furnished with a large bathroom, and quiet. The most enjoyable part of my stay was the excellent dinners, fully deserving of the two AA rosettes awarded to the " Chez Maw" restaraunt, even though the room decor was a little soulless. The food was well presented and very tasty; there was an adequate wine list . Breakfast, however, was a disappointment: sparse presentaion of fruit, cereals, breads and pastries, and cooked food that had clearly waited on the hot plate. After one such encounter, I breakfasted each morning in the excellent and cheap Darby's Cafe in the village. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The hotel is ideally situated for the village, museums, and the surrounding countryside and attractions. Overall this was a most relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Excellent stay, staff helpful, friendly and courteous. Nothing too much trouble it seemed. Very clean. Food freshly prepared to a high standard consistently. Great location for the area's attractions. Would certainly recommend to others and use again ourselves.

One complaint though, about the building, not it's staff. We stayed in room no:33 and were made well aware when someone was using the bathroom facilities next door. The walls must be very thin in that part of the building and further sound-proofing is highly recommended.

We were at the Valley Hotel with a group visiting one of the museums in Ironbridge.
We had dinner together in the Jackfield Room - service and food was very good.

The bedrooms was fine, but very hot, as was the bar area - so we did go outside for our pre dinner drinks.

Breakfast was good and I was pleased that the hot food was replenished very frequently - nothing worse than rubbery eggs.

We stayed here as part of a wedding package at the hotel - every single aspect of the hotel (staff, accomodation, services, rooms, etc.) was flawless, faultless and simply could not have been better and so we would not hesitate in recommending it.
