“Could be so lovely, great position in town but needs a good clean!”
Review of The Blue Boar

The Blue Boar
Ranked #11 of 91 Restaurants in Ludlow
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$7 - US$13
Cuisines: British, Brew Pub
Description: We offer a light local and homemade menu in an informal pub surrounding or courtyard garden. We aim to utilise the great local to Ludlow market and ethos to bring venison pies made in our kitchen to local desserts from the market. The menu changes frequently to reflect availability and seasons. So if a light local lunch full of Shropshire flavour is what you seek then we hope we can accommodate.

I called into the pub with my Mum for some lunch.Found a table no problem but just as i see another person had wrote-yes the tables were sticky and so was the carpet. We ordered a couple of prawn baguettes with chips. The chips were lovely fresh and hot but the baguettes were warm and chewy/rubbery like they had been over heated in a microwave.(certainly not part baked in an oven). The girl behind the bar serving certainly looked like she didn't want to be there and was far from welcoming. The ladies toilet looks like the sort of thing you expect on a caravan site and needs a make over and good clean!. Such a shame as the character of the building is lovely. Maybe we just picked a bad day /or choice for food.

Visiting Ludlow with friends, and were tempted by the offer of '2 meals for £12'.
Lunch time on a Saturday so quite busy.....but so much noise coming from the bar area where about 6 or 7 young men (presumably locals) seemed to want to shout at each other.
Found a table, made our choice and went to order at the bar. The barman was coping, but the pleasant waitress seemed to be run off her feet.
And whilst talking about feet, standing at the bar waiting to place my order, the carpet was sooooo sticky it felt unpleasant. Had not been properly cleaned for some time.
The food arrived and was typical pub grub (fish & chips x2, gammon & chips x2)
and the polite young waiter apologised for the 15 minute delay. Food ok, but couldn't expect anything spectacular for the price. One of our party went to the toilet, and reported back it could do with a good clean. As so often happens, staff saved the day.
Would we go back on our next visit? No way, unless to experience the tacky carpet!

Called in for Sunday dinner on Easter Sunday. The Sunday roast menu was off, apparently due to a supply shortage. However, we ate a perfectly adequate lunch off the specials menu.

Oh dear, what a shame that this place has gone so far downhill. I used to visit the Blue Boar for meals when visiting relatives in the area and was it was always okay, so I thought nothing of popping in for a bite to eat with some friends and family members after a visit to the castle. The menu looked okay, proper pub grub and with two meals for £12, not bad value.

How wrong I was... The first problem was that the table was unbelievably sticky, to the degree that the table mats were difficult to move around as they were stuck fast. We ordered some food which arrived after about 20 minutes. The first two meals were okay, but we had to send back the next two plates of ham and eggs as you could see that the egg was not cooked through and the egg white was still liquid. Then my friend cut into her burger, only to discover that it was semi raw inside. She complained and got her money back as she had been completely put off the food and it was only at this point that the table next to us said that they had the same problem with their burgers.

All in all, I don't think we'll be returning any time soon, unless the place has a deep clean and the chef learns to cook food properly!
