“So glad Cedric and Amy are back....”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We used to dine regularly at the Bell in Yarpole when it was run by Cedric some 5/6 years ago. I was delighted to learn that Cedric had now taken over the Charlton. We went for dinner and both enjoyed the whole plaice on the bone. Very generous portion and fresh, perfectly cooked fish. Pudding was delicious too. Very reasonably priced carafe of french white wine hit the right note.
The menu choices and quality of the cooking was very reminiscent of the Bell days and it was great to catch up with Cedric again. We will be back soon...

“Sunday Roast as it should be ...”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We had rushed from a packed Sunday morning of "sleeping in" followed by some vigorous swimming at the Ludlow Swimming Centre, and so on arrival it was a welcome gesture that we were first shown to our reserved window-side table, but then also given the choice of sitting out on the delightful terrace that the Charlton Arms enjoys, which we took of course given it was one of the hotter July days we have had thus far.

The setting seems nonchalantly idyllic, not like some countryside venues where even before arrival you are made well aware of the waterside and waterfall surrounds and their almost "hoo-ha" of an entrance. Instead, the watery sounds here are low key, and it is only after a few minutes that one realises that one is indeed totally in the midst of a gorgeous river setting, perched on and adjacent to a bridge.

We were family and friends and kids, and most went for the hearty roast of the day, be it the pork or the beef or other, accompanied by healthy beans and carrots with a light dessert of tart and ice cream to finish. Not that it was a mind blowing Sunday roast, but certainly a competent and scenic one, and at quite reasonable non-London prices.

“Enjoyed our food!!”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

Called in for dinner to be told all tables were reserved but we could eat in the bar. As it was very hot and stuffy in the bar we went back in the restaurant and I saw a little table by the entrance and asked if we could sit there, so we did. A little annoying that a few of the reserved tables didn't turn up and we could of had a better position. The fish and chips was very good and the wine was good. Worth a visit.

“Good Food and Fantastic View of the River”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We were taken here for lunch by a friend visiting from USA. The lunch menu was varied and we had the fish and chips which was very tasty. We sat in the window overlooking the river, the service was very good. Would certainly visit again when in the area.
