The Merchant House B & B

We stayed 2 nights with Rosemary at the Merchant House. Delightful! Good location close to the centre of the old part of town, a very pleasant 5 minute walk to the farmers' market, Mr Underhill's, La Becasse and so much more. the room was very big, with new bathroom and some of the fluffiest towels I've ever used. The breakfast however is really worth mentioning. Rosemary excelled at preparing something special each morning to compliment the usual English cooked breakfast. Home poached fruit, lovingly prepared (and segmented) fresh grapefruit and ginger syllabub. Wow. As for Ludlow, a lovely town in a lovely part of England. Do yourself a favour and find an excuse to visit.

This is a charming house which oozes character and Rosemary is a warm and knowledgeable host. Rosemary took into account our dietary needs and all the breakfasts were great. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the water pressure in the showers is fine. (I don't like wimpy showers!) One of the best things is the location as it's a short walk from the town centre yet very peaceful. There's a lovely pub next-door so you don't have to walk into town for dinner.

I would have given it a 4.5, but since that is not an option, a 5 it is!. Warm welcome from Rosemary, great breakfast, comfortable room. When she heard we liked green tea, she immediately added a number of green tea bags to our hospitality tray, and kept them stocked - it is the small things that make a huge difference. Parking vouchers are given out and you are unlikely not to get a spot near the house on Lower Corve Street as it is a little out of town so not a high demand area. Short walk up Corve Street to town (less than 10 minutes) and a pretty walk. Beautifully maintained and restored. Only reason for the 1/2 point deduction was the wi-fi - although a small property it did not work in two areas one of which was our bedroom which was a little inconvenient. Rosemary assisted as much as she could, but this could be easily and cheaply solved with an additional router which would address the limitations an older property like this has for connectivity. I would definitely return.

My wife and I stayed here 18th - 19th May, from Hampshire. Thoroughly enjoyable in every respect. The house oozes history, our room was large and comfortable and the full English breakfast was produced with care and piping hot.
Rosemary and Jonathan utterly charming and immediately felt like old friends. Their recommendation of La Becasse restaurant was "spot on" and being only a short walk from their B&B proved perfect. Altogether, a delightful experience and without hesitation we would stay again next time we are in or near Ludlow.

We stayed here for an overnight trip to eat in one of Ludlow's famous restaurants. The B&B provides comfortable, convenient and relaxed accommodation with the highlights being the building itself and the owners. The building dates from 1480 and is steeped in history and charm as a result, very befitting of any visit to Ludlow. At the same time there is good quality bedding, linen and accommodation (our room was spacious and comfortable) and you also get an absolutely first class breakfast. Jonathan and Rosemary also offer a truly personal touch however: they are friendly, enthusiastic and very passionate about the town and the Merchant House itself and are more than happy to take the time to give you a potted history of the building, recommendations for places to go and so on. They cannot do enough to make sure you are comfortable and feel at home. Fantastic.

On the practical side, the Merchant House is well located for town - a 5 minute stroll gets you to the top of the hill and therefore the market and castle area) and is also only about 2 minutes from the excellent La Becasse restaurant (Mr Underhills is the other side of town, but you are still talking 10-15 minutes easy walking taking in the town on the way.) Parking is on the street but we had no problem at all finding a space just outside the door. Coming in from the North (road from Shrewsbury) just look out for the first turn on the left as you cross the bridge and come to Corve Street (quite easy to miss!)

My husband and I stayed here 25th-27th April from West Sussex. We stayed in Ludlow purposely to eat at Mr Underhills and La Becasse and stumbled upon this little gem.

Room was huge, breakfast was out of this world and filled us up for the whole day! Rosemary the owner couldn't do enough for you.

Would stay again and recommend to friends & family.

What a delightful place to stay. It is easy to find as you arrive by car into Ludlow. Parking outside wasn't difficult and the owners gave us a parking pass for Saturday. The B&B is but a short walk up to the centre of town, is on a quiet street and just a couple of doors along from a good gastro pub, which we tried out on the Sunday night. A huge plus for us was that we could store our bikes inside in a secure lock-up; far better than risking leaving them on your roof rack over night. The Merchant House is steeped in history and the sloping floors and plenty of beams show that! The main B&B room itself is spacious and to access it you go through a single bedroom/sitting area; so in effect you're staying in a suite! The owners Rosemary and Jonathan are friendly and a mine of information about the area — best of all are Rosemary's breakfasts with excellent local and exceptionally tasty sausages and bacon. If we're back in the area then this is where I'll try and book again!
