“Evening meal”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

My husband and I and our 2 friends were staying just outside Ludlow so booked The Feathers for an evening meal. The outside was very impressive, I'm afraid that's where the praise finishes. The bar area was unattractive, the barman served cava instead of prossecco not realising there was a difference, the main restaurant was not very appealing and when our taxi arrived no-one could find where our coats had been hung up.
The area outside the main restaurant was small but had atmosphere and the bar meals were okay. A disappointing experience .

We recently stayed at this hotel for just one night but we will definitely return. Following a friendly welcome on booking in, we were shown to a lovely room with a living flame gas fire, Jacuzzi bath, walk in shower and bathrobes.
Following a drink in the cosy bar we had the three course Table d'Hote meal in the restaurant which turned out to be one of the best meals we have had. Good service, pleasant atmosphere and wonderful food.

We visited this hotel for a weekend break - there were 6 in our party.

We had all been upgraded in the choice of our rooms which were excellent - both in terms of roominess and comfort levels 4 poster beds and very comfortable mattresses.
The spa bath was a delight The only issue I had with the room was that the shower was a a little on the weak side - but hey with a spa bath like that who cares about the shower! The decore in the bathroom was a little tired and drab.
The bart was welll stocked and excellent local beer on tap. The barman was friendly and knowledgeable. Lovely wood fire constanly burning in the grate.

The rerstaurant served excellent meals - noone was disappointed. The standard was high and the menu was not too extensive so no frozen meals - all freshly cooked. I particularly enjoyed the saddle of rabbit and my friends commented very positively on the venison

Room Tip: We had rooms with 4 posters and they were all good - room 251 was the best!

Leaving this hotel tomorrow, and already wondering when I can return. The history is amazing, and when you sit in the cosy lounge in front of a fire, looking at the carved wooden furniture and decorative ceilings, it makes you realise how little character and charm other hotels convey. Despite being on a coach trip, where often you get the smallest rooms, and set meals. My room is spacious, the choice at breakfast varied and freshly cooked, I can highly recommend the haddock and poached egg. Whilst Dinner has been wonderful, from goats cheese coated with pistachio to breast of duck with honey glaze, followed by such delights as apple crumble or a selection of local cheeses. My niece even tried the rabbit confit one night, which she declared delicious. However, as someone who works in the hospitality industry knows, it is often the team who provide the customer care that go unrecognised. The level of customer care delivered at The Feathers is something the staff should all be proud of, and is exceptional.

We spent five nights here last week. What a wonderful hotel. Old fashioned in the nicest sense. Terrific staff. Every request was immediately followed up. All the staff were friendly and very efficient. During the week when there were fewer customers and last weekend valentine weekend there was no sign at all of staff being under pressure. Everything ran smoothly. Our room was enormous and I had asked for a quiet room and this we had at the back of the hotel, perfect. During the week the hotel room was a bit cold,as the heating was off between 10a.m and 4p.m. At the weekend the hotel was much warmer. But as soon as I called reception and asked about the heating a heater was produced which warmed up the room very quickly. The rooms were beautifully cleaned very day.

The restaurant was a surprise as the food was superb. Not meat and two veg as one might expect but delicious tasty, perfectly presented first class cooking. Perhaps the next Michelin star in Ludlow?

If you are looking for an old fashioned beautiful hotel, where you will feel at home and relaxed make a reservation. You will not be dissapointed.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Feathers Hotel, Ludlow. My husband and I have had a wonderful time and can't say enough good things about this place. We booked through Hotels.com for a Luxury Double Room and the description was spot on. Upon arrival, we parked in the car park at the rear (it is small, but get there early and you shouldn't have a problem). Check in was smooth and very friendly (special thanks to Kelly, who was very helpful). We were allocated room 244, so set off in the lift and found the room easily. The room itself was huge, very tastefully decorated but keeping to the 'old' style. The bed was very comfortable and gave us both a great night's sleep. Curtains blocked the light coming in when the sun came up, so both felt refreshed in the morning. Storage in the room is plentiful with all of the amenities you would expect (IE Hairdryer, Iron & Ironing board, Trouser press, complimentary mineral water and great coffee and tea making facilities, radio alarm, telephone, dressing table with mirror and flatscreen TV with DVD player). The room also had a large open gas fire, making it very cosy at the end of the evening to enjoy a nightcap in the privacy of your own room. The en-suite bathroom was equally as large, with a double power shower and a double jacuzzi bath and heated towel rail. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and attention to detail by cleaning staff was clearly evident. We ate in the Feathers restaurant on the first night and found the food very tasty and enjoyable for a set menu on Valentine's Day. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the food he was serving to us and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was included with our stay and was excellent on both mornings with plenty of choice including a continental buffet with the normal cereals, juices, fruit etc, to a cooked breakfast with a choice of fried, scrambled or poached eggs. There was also porridge, Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or Haddock and poached egg as an alternative to the usual full english. Public areas were all clean, warm and welcoming with roaring log fires, which were continually being attended to. All staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and approachable and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, in fact we never return to the same place twice, but would make an exception for The Feathers! Don't hesitate, book it now! We had a wonderful 5th Wedding Anniversary.
