I have happily stayed here many times over the years and sadly last night was the worst!
The reception staff continue to be star quality but the cleanliness of my room left a lot to be desired. The floor of the bathroom was dirty and the bedspread looked as if it hadn't been washed for months. On top of this my top floor room was at the front and I was kept awake until the wee hours by rowdy foul-mouthed drunks in the road below.
The hotel was full due to the spring food festival and the breakfast service suffered because of it. The delightful staff were rushed off their feet, the full English was bland and certainly not up to the previous standard.
Let's hope this was a one off.

We have just had a very pleasant stay at the Feathers Hotel. We found both the room and the bed comfortable and our bathroom was pleasantly warm and more than adequate. The staff were helpful and accommodating, and the food, both dinner and breakfast, excellent.

This was our second time staying at the beautiful and historic Feathers Hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Ludlow. On both occasions, we were given an upgraded room. This time to a four poster room. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was fabulous - the bathroom was larger than some rooms where we've stayed. The breakfast, included in the price of our room was very nice. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Ludlow Castle and a 10 minute walk from the train station.

Im trying to present a fair opinion on this hotel so its a case of good and bad points .First the positives the staff are accomodating and freindly the breakfast is excellent the location and parking is great .... But the hotel is sadly in desperate need of a complete refurb internally examples being tired furniture in public areas some unused public rooms on the ground floor with random scattered furniture ,dated barthrooms, very dated decoration and carpets , dated reception area, uncomfortable and leaning beds !!!! etc certainly it does not justify its tariffs which are considerable ( £400 for one night 5 adults is enough to pay ) It is certainly more attractive on its website than the real experience. I would say dont necessarily stay away but be aware .The staff deserve better ........... someone needs to drag it into the 21st century. .

Room Tip: try and avoid rooms on the front as the main road is noisy at night

We really enjoyed out visit to this hotel at the weekend, huge room with four poster bed and a large bathroom, the staff were very helpful. The only down side was the noise from the main road, which was a shame as we didn't hear any noise from the rest of the hotel. We will ask for a quieter room next time.

I booked this hotel expecting its reputation as a former coaching inn to be more than fulfilled. The facade was very impressive and attractive but we were immediately disappointed by the "mechanical" nature of the check-in process. At no stage were we offered assistance with our luggage nor were we informed of any local attractions or provided with a map. When we enquired about the location of our room we were told that it was on the first floor and that a lift was available. We were not informed about the number of steps to be negotiated before we reached our room. After this we discovered that we had been given what must have been arguably the smallest double room in the hotel. The decor was chintz and there were two steps up to the bathroom. The saving grace was the restaurant where the young serving staff were very attentive. Matt (I believe that was the name as staff do not wear name badges ) was very knowledgeable about the food on the menu and since we had by chance chosen to dine after a resident coach party, he had the time to explain the various choices. The wine list was extensive and with the usual restaurant markup.Breakfast next day was adequate but not exceptional ( cereals in packets for example ) and at almost £15 as a separate price did not offer value for money. Overall we would not stay at this hotel again as we feel that it is trading on its past reputation, the check-in exemplifying this.

Room Tip: Make sure that you know exactly where your room is. In an hotel of approx. 40 rooms with a coach par...

Thank you for your comments. I was a little suprised that you were unhappy with the check in process as all the receptionists are helpful and welcoming. With regard to the steps unfortunately as you would have been aware this is a very old building and not like the modern hotel.
We have received the breakfast award from Visit Britian for several years running and cereals in packets are far more hygienic than loose cereals in a bowl.
It was nice to read that Matt in the Restaurant provided good service.

We really couldn't find any fault with the Feathers - a very warm welcome, a lovely huge room with four-poster bed and whirlpool bath and divine food and service. The evening meal in the restaurant was a superb dining experience with gourmet food and friendly efficient prompt service throughout. The Feathers team are well-trained, effective and efficient.
Thank you Feathers, please don't change!
