We were with a coach party of c.45 staying here for one night only (more would have been very welcome). Our room was beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable. Lots of storage space and good large bathroom with bath and shower./ The shower though has a quite weak flow, making rinsing off a lengthy process !
Our evening meal although of limited (party) choice, was adequate and tasty; however, no apple sauce served with the pork; waitress explained that they had run out. Oh dear...
Also, the only lift was out or order - not a problem for some but maybe for others.
Bedroom windows would not open to allow fresh air on a very hot night. Needs attention. (103)
The (British) staff were unfailingly polite, respectful and efficient. Well done to all.

Room Tip: We were on first floor front - a little night noise but not excessive.

Three star in some respects, one star in others, this hotel represents poor value for the price. I went for a weekend with my daughter and grandson in early July. The welcome was off-hand, the food in the bar mediocre, and when my daughter found a piece of jagged plastic in the ice cream, the response was a shrug and a nonchalant "I'll tell them". No offer of an alternative and I had to ask to have the charge removed.

A serious complaint was the noise from live music across the street from our front rooms. Though it ended at 11:30, noise from customers leaving and talking outside persisted until well after midnight. The hotel would be well advised to provide free earplugs for customers in front rooms.

The rooms themselves were very clean and the bathrooms provided with a good stock of toiletries, even including provision for shoe polish and sewing. My single was a bit small and dull - 1970's John Lewis in decor - and my daughter's double was more attractively decorated, the major handicap being an entry skylight with no provision for blocking the light.

Morning staff were cheerful and friendly, and the full English breakfast delicious. Free to residents but £15 to non-residents, it contained frozen catering pack hashed brown potatoes so perhaps not good value.

More serious was a certain laxity of the staff, who were unable to provide a much-needed telephone or fax number of a chemist for my daughter, whose doctor had telephoned to say that she needed a prescription urgently. Reception didn't have the information; the London doctor, impatiently waiting on the telephone, googled and supplied it.

Room Tip: Under no circumstances book a front room!

I had a lovely stay at this hotel whilst on a walking weekend. The facade is still the original 1619 and is very attractive, but the rooms at the back are more modern, clean and comfortable. The food was well presented and delicious and the staff friendly and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you are visiting the beautiful town of Ludlow.

The trip to Ludlow from Chester was so good, past Oswestry and Shrewsbury ,then into Ludlow and booked into the Feathers.First thing to do after viewing our fabulous room was cameras out and taking some shots of the frontage .The whole of Ludlow surpassed our expectations, castles, churches plenty of really old pubs and nice easy access to restraunts,in fact everything was spot on.Must go back soon.

I booked an Eerie evening at this hotel some weeks back through Haunted Rooms.com as a 50th birthday for myself and my partner as did my girlfriends who booked a twin room. Upon our arrival, and on check in at 3pm we were too late for lunch and unable to get sandwiches either as the kitchen was closed until 6pm. At the bar, asked to taste the house wine before purchase and the barmaid seemed very put out by this request. I was really surprised as never had such a reaction before. So overall it didn't start off too well but we weren't out to find fault but just to have a good time. This had cost £250 per couple after all.
The rooms were very clean so well done to the Housekeepers! My girlfriends who booked a twin room, got to share the honeymoon suite and a four poster bed. Sweet of them to offer it to us though :)
The evening two course meal included in the price was very, very nice tho it was shame no wine was provided but breakfast the next day was excellent as were the waiters serving us.
The biggest let down was the Ghost Hunt. Not the fact we didn't see or experience anything but by the two bit company who were doing it. No organisation, pathetic presentation, no interest. They had no enthusiasm and it was cringeworthy. Even one of the team fell asleep when we were checking 'haunted' bedrooms and as for the 'medium' I think I held more qualification.
Please don't be put off by this beautiful hotel though. My friends have done ghost hunts here before and they apparently were amazing. This one however on the 12/13th July justified why so many walked out. Such a shame.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Stayed in room 108 (superior double, no ghost) which is not in the old part & was a large, decent room with steps up to the bathroom with both a bath & a separate shower. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we wanted to get out & about in Ludlow. The hotel was atmospheric & we loved the sense of history & also the communal rooms that were available. The worst things I could say about it was that the shower spray is a feeble little drizzle & also because we were at the front part of the hotel we were kept awake until midnight & thereafter woken up occasionally by the noisy people from the pub opposite on the street, they were shrieking & shouting. However that's not something the Feathers have any control over, I just mention it as its beyond annoying! Our favourite things were the location, the history & feel of the hotel and the superb staff.

We always enjoy our stay at the Feathers.. the food is good the hotel is full oc character and clean.. The staff are excellent.. its just a shame that NO SMOKING IN THE HOTEL doesnt mean that ..we tried on four occasions to vist the outside yard but on each visit we were met by clouds of smoke...horrible... as non polluters we shouldnt be excluded from using this lovely facility... but while ever people are smoking there... we are ..

Room Tip: on each night about 1.30am the noise outside the front of the hotel was very noisy.
