Stayed at the Feathers bank holiday Sunday on a GB tours trip. The hotel is a lovely black and white building and very atmospheric. When you walk down the corridors the floors are uneven and add to the historic feel of the place. The bedroom was comfortable and spacious and a large bathroom which was well stocked with everything you would need. Staff were pleasant and helpful and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant, breakfast was included with plenty of choice. The bar served real ale at a reasonable price. There were different rooms to sit in which had beams and oak panels one could imagine a ghost walking through them. I would love to go back it was such a lovely place.

The Feathers is a beautiful building but we felt the suite we had was a great size but rather tired and in need of a upgrade to freshen it up. We paid quite a lot of money and did not feel ee had complete value. I must say the hotel was very clean and staff friendly even if one morning our breakfast order was incorrect but not a big deal.

The hotel is very close to the center of the ancient market town of Ludlow. The front of the hotel is a very old building with later extensions added at the back. The spacious bedrooms are fine but the decor of the reception and the staircases are very dated and let the place down - time for a refit. The lift should be consigned to a museum. Bathroom and loo were modern. There are some interesting historic public rooms on the first floor with wooden paneling, plaster ceilings and windows.

The restaurant was sound and they served a good traditional tasty English breakfast. Free Wi-Fi is available. There is a medium sized car park adjacent yard next to the hotel side entrance with free parking.

Just spent a wonderful weekend in Ludlow staying at The Feathers Hotel.
Hotel was first class. Everything matched the period. Food was excellent. Service superb. Really comfortable well decorated and furnished, bathroom big enough for 2! Don't know why it isn't 4 star. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Having booked dinner for 7.00 we were only offered booking before 5.30 or after 8. .30, due to coach party. We presume food is good.
Our superior room was unacceptable with poor decor, bad fitting curtains and a mattress as old as hotel. The landings were in need of attention. The dining room was best area.
What must our American visitors think of all this.

Room Tip: Keep away from 104 and others.

Thank you for comments. A new mattress has been ordered a couple of weeks ago and will be delivered in September. This room is due to be refurbished in the near future.

We've just enjoyed 3 nights at The Feathers in a large, pleasant, quiet room overlooking the internal patio. Service was efficient, helpful & friendly. Whilst somewhat lacking in atmosphere the restaurant experience was very good: dinner was well presented, quality food including a particularly impressive cheese plate. The hotel is superbly located for visiting the delightful town of Ludlow & walking in the nearby wonderful countryside.

Room Tip: Go for a superior, internal room for maximum comfort & quiet

My dog and I have just returned from a two night stay at the Feathers.

A one man and his dog rail trip to sample local ales.

The hotel and staff could not have been more dog friendly. The chap at reception took a genuine interest, as did the waiting on staff. There are defined dog friendly areas where you can eat and drink and dog friendly bedrooms. No extra charge either.

The hotel is hundreds of years old and well used too. The room whilst some my consider dated was exceptionally functional with fast free working wifi , hot water and spotlessly clean with a comfy bed. When we arrived someone had thought to spay a little air fragrance in the room. Usually if the room has had lots of dogs pass through its door my dog will go about sniffing however on this occasion she appeared satisfied she was the only one, a testament to cleaning team who snuck in to make the the bed the following morning.

Bumped into Michael Portillio on the stair case as he was filming his train series in Ludow the next day.

At breakfast this morning the kitchen even sent out an extra plate with two sausages and black pudding for the dog to enjoy.

Ludlow itself is the ultimate dog friendly town, one pub the unicorn has a sign on the bar telling all that its the policy of the house to allow dogs in the bar and if you don't like it go sit in the restaurant!

You can even take your dog inside Ludlow brewery and have a drink and share a pork pie!

There is an excellent local magazine call Doghouse.

I will definitely be back to the Feathers and Ludlow soon. Both dog and I are missing it already having been turned away by the coach driver of a bus replacing a train service on the way home as he didn't like dogs!
