“Sublime.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2014

Myself, my husband, and our two Canadian guests ate at The French Pantry in August. It was a horribly rainy day in Ludlow, but the restaurant was warm and inviting. Everything was immediately superb - the warm welcome given to us by the owner/chef, the divine bread and the wine.
The menu is unfussy and very well thought out, with something for everyone, but not too much as to over-confuse matters.
Starters, main courses and desserts were absolutely fantastic, with particular highlights being a smoked mackerel appetizer, which, in all honesty, must have been cooked by angels, a main course of moules mariniere, which had evidently been working out as they were the biggest mussels any of us had ever seen, and the creme brulee dessert - a properly crisp bruleed top, with the most glorious vanilla custard underneath, studded with fresh vanilla seeds throughout.
We will most definitely be back and will be recommending the absolute delight that is 'The French Pantry' to anybody that will listen!

“Good food and portions”

We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. The atmosphere was friendly, the portions generous and prices reasonable. Booking is essential even mid week.

“classic french food and excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

The food was what you expect in a french restaurant. The dishes were all expertly prepared and presented, I liked the fixed menu in restaurants although i did pick dishes with an extra charge, I thought it was excellent value.

I will go again next time I am in Ludlow.

“Lovely atmosphere & good choice of menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

My husband did the research on the internet including Trip Advisor and booked The French Pantry for a meal on Friday night. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the (less than 10) tables were fully booked. We had a warm welcome and the choice on the menu was small, but varied and we were spoilt for choice as a lot of the dishes were our favourite. We had snails and scallops for starters followed by sea bream and cassoulet. The sea bream was cooked perfectly, but we were disappointed with the rest, especially being a French restaurant. The snails were tough and chewy; the scallops came in a delicious sauce but were slightly undercooked and the cassoulet was a lot of beans in a very nice sauce with one sausage and a piece of pork belly, together with a small duck's leg (cooked separately). Not like the cassoulets I have had in France. However, the table next to ours had fish pie and they were obviously enjoying it. Our meal was not awful, but was a disappointment, but the wine was excellent. Perhaps we made the wrong choices and/or the chef wasn't up to par. We were only passing through and would have liked to try this restaurant again with different choices this time. I was wavering between giving three or four stars, but have given four as it was such a good atmosphere and the two waiters were so nice.

“small and friendly with great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

4 of us dined here on Saturday night. Last booking is 8.30pm, which is what we had. I had read it was small and yes it was but it didn't feel cramped. Our table was in the window and we were not near another table.
They have a set menu of £20.00 for 2 courses (vegetables are extra)
The starters were served quickly but appeared fresh and we all enjoyed our choice. The wine was served promptly but we were not asked if we would like to try it.
The main courses again were all really good. I had sea bass, plentiful and cooked well.
The staff were helpful and friendly and we all really enjoyed the place and I would certainly recommend it.
The only down side - one toilet for men and women (very clean though)
