We stayed one night in August. The weather was lovely and Ludlow looked its best. The welcome on arrival at the hotel was warm and friendly, and our room, on the first floor, overlooking the pretty garden and wooded hillsides beyond, was clean and comfortable. Nice old furniture and appropriately flowery fabrics contributed to a traditional feel. The bathroom was definitely on the out-moded side, but everything worked fine.

Breakfast was great, and we had everything we could have wished for. The Shropshire Breakfast was generous and well-cooked, and the smoked haddock and poached egg delicious.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. Thanks for a happy stay.

Room Tip: Rooms with views overlooking the garden and hillside beyond are lovely in the summer

Early in the year a birthday lunch for 4 people was booked in the bistro for June 6th . On arrival the welcome was poor, we were told someone" would be down " to serve drinks in the lounge. No one appeared so asking again we were told at reception someone would serve us soon. Eventually we were asked by a waitress what we would like to drink, no wine list was produced until asked for. We eventually ordered a white wine, this was brought to the table with 4 glasses threaded through the fingers of the waitress in one hand, and the bottle in the other hand, no wine cooler, bottle was noisily put on table, no offer of a tasting or pouring out. When asked to pour the wine it was spilt in a puddle and left. We had to ask for it to be mopped up, which was done with some reluctance. Our meal was served in the bistro, no napkins on our table. Two of the meals had to be returned to the kitchen. We were the only diners!. Eventually a much more efficient young lady with a pleasant manner came to serve us. Rather too late to impress us I am afraid.
We were presented with the bill and much to our surprise £9-00 had been added for service.
Needless to say that was not paid on this occasion.

In view of the fact this birthday lunch had been booked well in advance we felt the owner of the hotel should know of the poor service, a letter followed, I am still waiting for a response. I have telephoned and left my telephone number and name several times and have received to this date no contact in any form from the owner.

While the hotel is nice enough from the outside, it is probably the worst stay we have had in a while. When we got to our 'suite', there was no toilette paper to be found. Upon calling down to the front desk, our request for some was answered by "what would you need that then for"! The room was in bad condition, there was dust everywhere, we found a half empty water bottle from a previous guest behind the night stand, etc. Things were not much better at breakfast the next day, with two tables being so wobbly that the staff were unable to get them steadied. Orders for scrambled eggs with toast were delivered without toast and when we asked for it, we were told that surely we wanted the toast afterwards. All of that at very high costs for this sort of hotel make this one hotel to miss!

Thank you for your comments. We are very concerned that you did not enjoy your stay at Dinham Hall, and mostly surprised as to the nature of your comments. The Hotel enjoys an excellent reputation and receives many complimentary reviews and feed back from guests, not to mention a very high occupancy level due to its location and features. We emphasize strongly on providing a discreet yet attentive service with a smile, in a relaxed and informal ambiance, and most will agree that it is achieved quite successfully...
We aim to please and turn a smile on most people's faces, but we do not respond to grumpy or rude guests as it happens occasionally...!!!

We stayed at Dinham Hall in early August for a long weekend, taking advantage of their "Stay for Two nights, dinner, bed and breakfast and have an extra night free" offer. The hotel is situated overlooking the castle and just around the corner from the Market Square. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the hotel garden. The room had a large king size bed which was very comfortable with other furniture appropriate to the age of the house. The en-suite bathroom had a shower over the bath. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room and replenished daily.
We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and were delighted with the food on offer as were our friends who joined us for a meal on the Saturday. The food was of excellent quality, beautifully presented and as the portions were not huge we were able to enjoy all three courses. All the staff were extremely polite and helpful and we had a most enjoyable 3 night break there which we felt was good value for money.

We really enjoyed our stay here. hotel located in quite corner of Ludlow, but still very near the market square. lovely Georgian Building, well decorated & furnished, nice garden, plenty of car parking. Our room was light and spacious with everything we could have wanted (a few more coat hangers would have been nice!).
My only slight complaints were 1) when we got back at 10pm everthing was shut so couldn't get a drink even if we wanted one so don't rush back for a nightcap!, and 2) the english (Shropshire) breakfast wasn't the best I ever had so the next morning I asked for 3 scrambled eggs, tomatoes and lots of mushrooms and it was lovely. OK selection of fruit cereal etc to start, and croissants with various jams.
We got a good rate on-line so we were vey happy with the whole experience.
There are several lovely pubs in Ludlow. I can recommend the Church House for drinking, and the Rose & Crown, Wheatsheaf and Unicorn for for eating & drinking. All the other pubs seemed to be either empty, too trendy for us or aimed at young drinkers (we're in our late 40's).
If you like castles, you must go around Ludlow Castle. I got there an hour before it closed and had the place to myself. It is a big castle, so you need at least an hour if you want to climb the towers etc. Stokesay Castle en route to Shrewsbury is also very nice.

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room ask for garden view as its further from the road. you can also ask for a vi...

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay here, with 2 other couples. It was a mid week special costing £175 per room per night for dinner, bed and breakfast. The rooms were pleasant, but in no way exceptional. The breakfasts were sub standard for a hotel of this price - tough bacon (the knives may not have been sharp enough to cut through it), hard toast which could be because it was old and poor service from a couple of the waiting on staff, although a couple of others were very pleasant, especially after one of our party had complained. We were very disappointed with the evening meals. We had to return one of the steaks because it was under cooked, portions were fairly small, and although dinner was included in the special offer, we were charged a service charge for dinner when we paid the bill! We would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 3 (Wrights) overlooked the rear garden so was quiet. It also had the bigger bed.

This was our second visit to Lovely Ludlow, we wouldn't stay any where else but Dinham Hall. The room we had was in the very quiet garden annexe, very comfortable and cosy. The hotel is in a perfect spot to enjoy the little town, right opposite the Castle walls and an easy walk to the shops and restaurants. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant. Staff very friendly.
