Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

Arrived 6pm to checkin front door locked. Receptionist opened door and said " what do you want" nothing like a warm welcome as a paying guest. The receptionist then asked if we wanted to eat as if we did we would be the only people eating. We asked if we could get room service she said no.... In the information book it states room service is an extra £6.50 during restaurant service.... So annoyed we couldn't have that. She asked again if we wanted to eat or we could get a Thai takeaway and eat in the room!!! As the chef needed to know. So we thought the chef could finish early at 6:15pm! Not a great start.

We were pointed in the direction of our room wrights.... Well according to booking.com this room was worth £199.....
Room was cold .... Cobwebs and spiders in windows....Cobwebs on smoke alarm.... Dead flies on floor... 2 inch gap between floor and bottom of door ..... A tiny tv.... Floodlight on all night pointing and window as curtain was not a blackout curtain did not help with the light.... The twin bed zipped together uncomfortable.... The room has no redeeming qualities and for the price I expect better quality.
The bathroom and room had a musty smell... Window frames dirty and the bathroom very dated and not clean.

The breakfast was very good and the waitress very good. Maybe some music would help as it makes for uncomfortable eating when you have to listen to others chatting. We chatted to another couple who were moaning the room was cold so it wasn't just us.

The house keeper was sat outside our room on her mobile waiting for us to leave the room....

We handed our keys to the owner at check out who only nodded as he was busy chatting to receptionist. Poor customer service all the way and leading from the top....

What is Elliot's wine bistro and bar? Surely it doesn't make sense.... Wine bar and bistro or just Elliot's bistro... Which could not have been open on a Thursday!!!

Thank you for your review. We are genuinely disappointed that you did not enjoyed your stay at Dinham Hall. The Hotel is listed as a Georgian Town House and has received many commending reviews from guests and residents. The Hotel is also highly rated by all relevant Tourism Guides and Associations and offers excellent service as quoted in your reveiw, and we are pleased that you found the staff pleasant and helpful, which is quite contradictory with the overall tone of your review and rating.
The front door of the Hotel is opened every day from 7.30 am till 11.00 pm and perhaps, we would recommend trying the door handle or possibly even the front door, as there are 2 entrance doors to the Hotel.
Your online reservation for a Classic Room is accurate but you there must has been a misunderstanding on your rate of £99.00 B&B.
The Hotel enjoys an excellent reputation and offers a genuine experience for discerning guests, a blend of country house and town house, with a personal touch, fine dining as quoted in many reviews, and service with a smile, informal but yet efficient.
Your review is not consistent with the hotel rating and in disagreement with most previous reviews.

Stayed for one night only as a base for looking round Ludlow.Although early December, and cold, the room was barely heated, and was shabby and needed maintainance-widow frames rotting.''Shabby Chic?''No,just a bit shabby
Bed and linens were good, and Dinner and breakfast very good;but spoiled by lack of ingredients for an Irish coffee-and no non/low alcohol beer available as ''no call for it''.
Got the feeling that staff were short, and attention to detail lacking-a pity as the location and ambiance are really lovely

stayed at Dinham Hall for my husband's birthday weekend. Lovely old building, cozy log fire in lounge, staff very pleasant and friendly. As noted in an earlier review, more like a small country house than a hotel. Dined one evening and had an excellent meal. Not inexpensive, but would stay here again when visiting Ludlow.

Room Tip: stayed in 'Castle'. Cozy, big enough, bathroom fine.

We stayed here for a weekend at the end of October (the special offer for three nights). The hotel is in a perfect location with a plunging view of the castle (we were on the top floor) and a 5-min walk from the town centre. We loved the town, its medieval treasures and Elizabethan architecture, its quirky shops and good value restaurants that it has on display - so much to see without spending much!

All in all we enjoyed our stay in Dinham Hall very much and loved the 14th century fireplace at which we sat downstairs and did some reading while it was raining outside.

Athough the room was small it was very comfortable and clean. There is no lift in the hotel but the stairs are wide.

The food was exquisitely presented (one hesitated to upset the beauty of the arrangement !!) and very tasty but the portions at dinner were a bit lacking (for my husband who has a bigger appetite than me). Why not give an extra side portion of vegetables for free, for those who want them? A niggly point but I think the atmosphere could be improved. As the dining-room is an extension to the original 18th century house a lot of thought should be given to its decoration - and would it be possible to change the "piped" music?

The breakfasts were wonderful. And the breakfast room is wonderfully atmospheric. I sampled everything on the menu and all the different choices were equally good - except for the porridge which was pre-sugared. One last thing - the coffee made by the charming waitress with the long pony-tail (and the very slight accent) is the best strength !

Room Tip: Ask for one on the top floor to have the view of the castle

Arrived for a weekend and was informed that the rooms we'd booked were on the second floor - no being shown to the rooms or offer of any help with our luggage. The lounge was locked by 10.15pm on both nights and the fire in the lounge wasn't even lit on the Saturday, despite it being chilly - it was almost the middle of November! Breakfast was ok if you ate meat, not if you were vegetarian as I am. How can a hotel not have baked beans?! Or a veggie cooked breakfast?

The rooms themselves were fine apart from one of them being quite cold. When I informed staff about this I was told that there should be a fan heater in the wardrobe. Again, not great customer service. The bathrooms are tired but clean. Overall, the hotel is resting on its laurels and has obviously not responded to earlier comments on this site.

I would say must do better generally. Excellent base for Ludlow but that's it. Also be aware that there isn't a pool or spa here but at their sister hotel Overton Grange. If you wish to use their facilities you have to telephone ahead, (again the staff did not offer to do this for us) as well as pay £9.50.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden have great views.

When I first booked 3 rooms I had to cancel so I phoned on the Saturday morning to cancel for the following Saturday but was told that as I was a few hours late cancelling I would have to pay in full or rebook. I fully expected to lose £50 per room (which they take from you on booking) but even when I got booking.com to phone them they refused to budge. So we did go in the end and it was a pleasant place. Its very handy for the town and the castle but the rooms were a bit dated and the bathrooms (which can say so much about a place) were just ok. All in all I think it’s a bit expensive for what you get.

Stayed here last weekend in a suite.
The building is beautiful and you couldn't get closer to the castle and the town of Ludlow. The location is wonderful and the views from our suite were lovely.
The building is from the late 18th Century and is sympathetically furnished. Very classy.

I really thought that when we got to our suite it was going to be very impressive. Don't get me wrong, the room was beautifully presented and immaculately clean but I was disappointed with the lack of 'personal touches'. There were no robes, slippers, basket of toiletries and no biscuits (preferably home made which you usually get in hotels of this price and standard).

We had a suite as there were three of us but the sofa did not convert to a second bed so one of us had a very uncomfortable night.

Also on opening the curtains in the morning the window was full of flies (no idea where they came from as no windows had been opened, not necessarily the hotels fault though).

I will say though that the breakfast selection was one of the best I have seen. Lovely fresh fruit, cereals and choice of smoked salmon, haddock and traditional English cooked breakfast. Brilliant poached eggs but the scrambled a little overcooked for my liking, but that is just a personnel preference.

The staff here were lovely, polite and welcoming but no sign of the owners of the property.

I would recommend this hotel due to location and breakfast but would not say it sells itself on the personal touches.
