“Interesting architecture”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

We have been at Stokesay in 1997, thus it was time to come back.
The castle itself did not look like there have been any restoration done. (In my amateur view).
Although it's worth to take a visit and go for a cup of tea with cake, the birds will love the cake :-), I was hoping that more restoration had been done.

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. The castle has some unique items. The garden is lovely.
The entry fee is not expensive and the shop is great.

BTW, do not forget to visit the church next door of the castle.

“Not to be missed”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

Fantastic property - as often the case with English Heritage it is preserved but not recreated which I prefer. Stunning buildings, explore it as you like, and really charming people in the shop.

“Well worth a visit.”
Reviewed 27 June 2012

Stokesay Castle is more of a medieval Manor house set in Shropshire.
This beautiful building is set alongside the parish church and the impressive tudor style gatehouse
can be seen as you walk through the churchyard.
The house itself has magnificent timber roofing within and shuttered windows. The floor is original medieval tiled flooring and a staircase in the great hall leads up to the north tower.
In between the north and south tower there was a beautiful panelled room with an outstanding carved fireplace, this was probably one of the best rooms to see as you could see every detail of the carving and the panelling.
The south tower had two floors and a staircase leading up to the roof of the tower, giving you spectacular views of the surrounding area.
I found that every room of this castle had something different to look at and the work involved in the architecture was amazing.
Picnic tables are situated in the lovely castle garden where you can sit and take in the lovely views. There is also a gift shop selling plants, souvenirs, jams and homemade wines.
Stokesay castle is a lovely place to visit and i would certainly recommend a visit.
