What a good find. The best times during our travels have been when we have gotten "lost".
It was a very cold, snowy day, so we did not go inside, but only walked the grounds. Was still a great experience.

“Fortified Manor House”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

I visited this Fortified Manor House about forty years ago and have fond memories of the day but not much more. In those days one wandered around soaking up the atmosphere.
Now, with the introduction of the audio tour the experience is so much richer.
The day upon which we visited was bright and sunny, but cold. Standing in the Great Hall with the wind whistling though the shutters it was easy to appreciate how bleak winters must have been even for the wealthy.
Access to the various rooms is good, but some of the stairs are daunting as the treads are narrow and worn.
We intend to return(with a picnic) in the summer.

“well preserved for a 'ruin'”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

interesting features with helpful audio explaining how it was transformed over the years. Very similar 'great room' to one in SE london. Kids loved to run around the castle in the 'moat'. Good access to all the rooms, great vistas, interesting history. Saved in part by their capitulation in the civil war. Also, gift shop and loos nice.

“Stokesay Castle”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

An exceptional old fortified manor house, quite unique. The very old timbers are of such interest. Castle is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Always consider taking a picnic, otherwise there is an excellent cafe on site. Ray H.
