“Lovely hotel, only ten mins from the Market square”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2010

Great hotel and great value for money.

Nice rooms with views of the castle. Bathrooms now modernised - the owner was in the process of finishing the final couple of rooms, getting rid of the old 70s brown bathrooms, and now replaced with smart modern facilities. Really nice

located over the river under the castle, a ten min walk through the rural surroundings to the Market square. It is closer to the square than most o the hotels on the town side of the castle. Will visit again

A really nice hotel. We were particularly struck by the cleanliness of the hotel and friendliness of the staff.

The hotel just gleams and all decoration is just as it should be - no tired looking paintwork here. The bedroom was comfy and the en suite bathroom sparkling. The breakfasts were comprehensive and efficiently served.

The hotel does not pretend to have a michelin starrred restaurant and provides good value bar meals, and a competent evening restaurant with no frills. I have read that Ludlow has more michelin starred restaurants in its vicinity that anywhere outside of London so if you want to eat and pay at that level you can - this hotel will provide you with reasonable meals at reasonable prices.

Overall a good base and highly recommended in its category

Stayed for the food festival .Great location and nice staff.
Breakfast good but service chaotic.
Bedroom clean but bathroom needs a good clean and lick of paint.

Superb hotel for the money and 2 star rating. Staff were friendly and helpful from the time we booked in until the time we left. Nothing was too much trouble - including trying to sort out the WiFi in the loft! Rooms were clean and tidy with plenty of tea, coffee etc. Shower room was clean and tidy too. Breakfast was all you could wish for and more. Great value for the price. All agreed we'd go back again with no hesitation.

We spent two nights at The Cliffe Hotel whilst exploring the area. Helen and Lizzie were really helpful - conjuring up some gluten free bread for me and finding the nearest Citreon garage for a problem with our car. We had a standard ensuite room which was very clean and plenty big enough. The view of Ludlow castle directly opposite our window was superb. Food (breakfast and evening meal) was excellent. Local walks along the river are delightful and it's only 10 minutes walk into town. A really enjoyable stay, thank you!

We do not drive so we look for hotels not to far from the centre of town. When we chose the Cliffe it was because we thought it was quite close to the town centre (0.7 of a mile from the station). After a very long walk we eventually got there. The hotel is very comfortable and clean. The staff are very friendly and happy. Food is very good, down to the bar snacks, varied selection for breakfast. All in all could'nt fault it.
We both had a very good time here and would recommend anyone a stay at the Cliffe Hotel, Ludlow, even if its not as close to the station as it says, and my husband did survive the long walk pulling a very heavy case!! Also Ludlow and the surrounding area is worth a visit.

Stayed here for one night and would recommend it for a short stay. Our room was small but had everything we needed (shower, tea and coffee, soap and shampoo provided, hairdryer, towels, TV with four channels). We only slept there (well, we don't go away to sit in a hotel room) and it was perfectly adequate. Cant comment on the food but the bar was pleasant (if a touch old fashioned), and the owner was v friendly. Plenty of parking and it really is only ten mins walk from the centre of Ludlow but is in a really peaceful position. The place mainly seems popular with the older generation (which is fine with us!). Our favourite local pubs for food and ale were The Wheatsheaf and The Charlton Arms - you can walk to both along the river path in ten minutes.
