Had a fantastic lunch in this little place a real gem unlike our experience at La Becasse which unfortunately cost ten times as much and the food wasn't even as good.

Since its opening we have been regular customers. First the coffee is really good, certainly the best in Ludlow. I like it strong and the two shots makes great coffee. My wife, on the other hand, does not so has just one shot and enjoys her coffee. She is also a fan of the hot chocolate. She also finds it difficult to avoid the delicious little pastries. The deli has an interesting range of salamis and smoked meats you do not often come across. The salami with fennel is gorgeous as is the wild boar salami. The smoked pig's cheek we had last week, which I was persuaded to try as it did not look that appetising, was delicious. Their own smoked mussels, prawns and black olives are well worth trying. We use them shameless to prepare starters at home. Last Friday evening we had the Sea Food Extravaganza which was excellent value at £40. We started with olives and bread, then fish soup followed by mussel mariniere. Then there was a large plate of prawns, crevettes, crab and half a lobster each. House wine was also included. It was great and we struggled to do it justice but succeeded in the end! What we also enjoy are the Friday evenings from 5 - 8 pm when you buy the drinks and they supply the nibbles or more correctly cicchetti. (We drink the house wines then which are reasonably priced.) Its very crowded on these evenings but the atmosphere and chat are excellent. This establishment is not large and it gets very busy. The paper menus on each table also serve as a throw away place mat, so you can decide what you want to eat as you sip your coffee or wine. In addition they do a couple of specials each day. The staff are very pleasant and efficient. There are two small tables outside for those who like their coffee with a cigarette.

Hmm. The SO and I were meeting some chums in Ludlow and now that De Greys has passed on we thought we'd try The Smokehouse Deli. Now I am always saying if you have to ask the price of something you can't afford it, well in this case it's worth checking first. A simple luncheon for four (two plates of a cold meat selection and some bread) with a couple of beers and some coffee came to over £50 which quite frankly was a bit steep. Now the food and service were excellent - can't fault it, just don't forget it is a tapas style place and every little dish comes with a hefty price tag. Still mustn't grumble we could have gone to Costa..!

Martin formerly of the Jolly Frog knows about food and shows it well here. Tasty food and good prices. This place is going to be extremely popular. His smoked mussels are a delight and the fennel sausage casserole I had was a winner. The coffee is also superb from a good Italian brand.

Will I come back again? Absolutely. Bear in mind this place is tiny and seats are very limited. You just turn up and hope for the best. It's a great way to meet new people. Not for people who like lots of room though.
