My husband and I decided to visit the delightful town of Ludlow. We were so fortunate to have chosen Elm Lodge as our abode during the three-day visit. It is located in a quiet area within walking distance of the town centre. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We were able to help ourselves to tea and coffee provided. A small fridge was extremely useful for storing fresh milk. We met our charming hosts, Steven and Barbara, at breakfast time when we were offered a delicious, freshly-cooked breakfast. It was fit for a king!
We will be definitely back there for another visit next year.

Room Tip: We were very happy with our room but if a person experienced difficulty climbing stairs, he/she woul...

A lot of visitors to the Elm Lodge have called the place ‘Noisy’ and ‘quirky’.
Nearly all have praised the cooked breakfast.
The Golf course and grounds are a sheer delight if you live in a city, a breath of fresh air – literally.
Others have mentioned the haulage yard adjacent to the property.
All these comments are true, but non detract from the fact that Barbara, Stephen and their offspring do everything possible to make your stay, a relaxing holiday, away from the cares of the real world.
It’s said they go out of their way to help and inform the visitor about the local sights and attractions, but consider that they have lived in the hotel in its various stages since 1995. They have lived a life there, so what they offer is a well considered opinion of Ludlow and its surroundings which is something you don’t get in many places these days when all hoteliers what is to get your money.
There is a lot of unseen work that goes into making the hotel one of the best maintained and run places I have visited and the dedication to their customers is well worthy of praise.
When you leave there, you are leaving behind friends.
Would I return? A definite yes!

Really enjoyed my stay with my mother. A beautiful, tranquil spot, yet close to town centre and main routes. Hosts were wonderful and we appreciated all the little extras in the room. Only downside was the steps up to the room for my 82 year old mum. Also, as Ludlow is a FairTrade town it would have been good to see some Fairtrade coffee on the welcome tray.

We stayed for three nights. The room was clean and the breakfasts were excellent. One tiny complaint only, we could have used more coat hangers, especially some with a trouser hanging bar. Close to some good restaurants.

Thank you for a couple of wonderful days. Barbara, Stephen and family were wonderful hosts. The rooms were lovely, clean and warm. We were lucky to have our own kitchette and a lounge . Breakfast was superb, nothing was too much trouble for them. It was nice to see them everymorning and have a chat with them about what you were doing that day and sometimes they had some very good ideas for places to see.

Thank you Barbara and Steven for a lovely couple of nights. Walking into their beautiful dining room for breakfast, we could not have been made to feel more welcome! The breakfast was delicious - the Ludlow sausages were to die for! The accommodation was excellent, quirky and spotless. It has beautiful grounds, and an idilic peaceful ambiance! Ludlow was an easy 15 minute walk, but don't forget your torch for the stroll back! Ludlow offers some inviting watering holes, especially "The Church" and their famous Ludlow pies! And "Abode" the interior shop up Corve Street is an absoloute must.
Thank you again Barbara and Steven for a wonderful stay, heres to your ongoing developments, and hope to see you again in the not too distant future!

We stayed here for two nights on a KGB deal which was ridiculously cheap for what we got.
Steven & Barbara are very friendly, attentive & welcoming hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. After a nice welcome we went to our room where a bowl of fruit & two bottles of complimentary water awaited us.
During our stay we enjoyed excellent breakfasts both English & Continental. The latter included very tasty pastries baked by Barbara.
Steven made some good recommendations of places to eat & we found the Unicorn in Corve Street, Ludlow particularly atmospheric, friendly & serving good quality food from what was perhaps a slightly limited menu.
Elm Lodge, set in its own large grounds, is located about a mile from the centre of Ludlow. There is an attractive 9 hole golf course which we didn't try.
Our room was Fairway One accessed via a wooden outdoor staircase. A large well equipped room, with a fridge, free fast WiFi, and a nice view straight ahead over the golf course. There are 3 rooms on this level, The Coach House, Fairway One & Fairway Two. Our room was in the middle. These rooms are situated above the old stables & Coach House which are now converted & used as offices and a separate Golf Shop. Because of the time of year it was nice & quiet from below. However, the dividing walls between the bedrooms are either incredibly thin or lack some form of adequate insulation/sound proofing. We were lucky as our immediate neighbours on both sides appeared to keep the same sort of bed/rising times as we do. However, when these rooms were occupied & the occupants were speaking just at normal levels or had the TV on almost every word could be heard. Frankly, we found this to be unacceptable although it is difficult to see what the owners can to to alleviate the problem without ripping the walls down & building thicker ones. This would be difficult because of the attractive exposed beams in the existing walls. As I say, we were fortunate it did not affect the quality of our stay.
The other downside is a visual one & is the adjoining transport yard, owned by the B&B proprietors, where semi-heavy plant/trucks/coaches are stored overnight. Looking out over the golf course we tried not to look to our left where this yard, only a short distance away, is clearly in view. As regards any disturbance to sleep, whilst we were there, the vehicles did not start up until 7.30am & this presented no problem. However, it does not look attractive & definitely affects the overall ambience since the location of Elm Lodge is very rural. Steven & Barbara are well aware of this problem & we understand it is their intention to resite this yard some miles away. When this is done it will greatly benefit the B&B.
I don't really like to be critical as we got such a good deal with KGB & our hosts were such truly nice people. However, one has to be honest.
Would we stay again? Certainly if the sound proofing was sorted out & the transport yard removed.
