We managed to get a cancellation and so glad we did! I cannot fault anything about the evening.

We arrived and had a pre-dinner drink overlooking the river and were served our first course of olives - the bread was delicious.

We then moved inside for the remaining courses - the taste of all were exquisite. Presentation was beautiful and each course was just the right amount.

Everything was cooked to perfection. The beetroot humus was a lovely added bonus to the meal. The asparagus pasta dish was so tasty it left us wanting more....and the beef dish melted in our mouths!

Desert came and I was so glad it was the last course as I was absolutely stuffed! I had the chocolate chocolate chocolate dish and the husband had the rhubarb...both were delightful.

Would definitely recommend and it is worth every penny. Will be returning for sure.

A truly wonderful experience at Mr Underhill's. I booked two nights for my wife's 30th birthday, this was a location she had wanted to visit for a long time. We dined in for one evening and were not disappointed with the Menu. The cost per head, £69.50, was very reasonable for 9 courses and we were more than satisfied with two half bottles of excellent wine which were around £40. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderfully calming and relaxing, however, the food was outstanding.

We will certainly be visiting again in the future

Reviewing somewhere of the eminence of Mr. Underhill’s might be an exercise in impertinence – after all, what does the average person know about what goes into making this unique experience the success that it is?

Those who worship at the altar of fine food on a regular basis probably do know, and therefore do not need telling. Those who don’t know but would like to find out are encouraged to attend one of their services. Conversion is undoubtedly assured.

The discipline of diners is cared for by a choir of young, quietly attentive, boys and girls, who do not impose, and who are smarter in appearance than some of the diners. The wine list is the Book of Revelations, with each verse knowledgeably explained by Mrs Bradley who probably knows more about the topic than the majority of people. The bold and the trained would probably go for a bottle or two, but for those who are comfortable in their ignorance, Mrs Bradley has her little list of specials which she has chosen to go with the evening’s menu.

The Order of Service is a solemn list of pleasures in waiting. A small dish of marinated black olives, music paper crisps and some warm olive biscotti is accompanied by a chilled Manzanilla. Marinated salmon shallot sushi bites, with a glass of Massaya Blanc from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, precede a pea velouté with a smoked ham ice cream. A glass of Lafitte Teston, a sweet white Madiran, with the duck liver custard, Ludlow quince cream and a Banyuls glaze, was a perfect pairing. The Massaya Blanc alongside roasted halibut in beurre blanc finished in a dead heat with the fish, but the Hautes Cotes de Nuits Burgundy was probably ahead by a nose to the breast of Mulard duck and a palette of accompaniments. One dinky strawberry ice cream cone and fruit sweeties are served so that one can read the dessert menu with a sense of anticipation. There are dessert wines, wines to accompany cheese, and all manner of things to have with the coffee. The limitation is capacity, and gravity. Happily, there is but a short distance from this nave of gastronomy to one’s excellent room, for which one is thankful.

The tireless maintenance of high standards, the capacity for hard work, the culinary skills and creativity, the clear aim of making a visit here a memorable one, and the flawless attention to detail reflect on the professionalism of the personable Mr & Mrs Bradley and their staff, and thus it is that one has to conclude that one’s prayers have been answered, and the Book of Experience has had another chapter added.

For which only one’s heartfelt gratitude will suffice.

Went for a friend's birthday - they stayed and said their room was wonderfully peaceful with the noise of the river in the night.

The food was very good, not great. We had a taster menu of 5 courses and 3 of the course were very good - 2 average. I know you can't please everyone's taste.

The experience as a whole was a really nice evening out
