My partner and I had a very low cost booking through late rooms and were very excited by the fact that Ludlow had a boutique hotel.
First impressions are good, Its a lovely property and very nicely renovated. reception is small and not manned throughout the day which is a bit of a bug bear but the rooms are well appointed and a good size. Couple of things missing such as a bin and full length mirror but we coped.
Staff are in the main very friendly.
We dined in house on Saturday evening and the dining room was very quiet, one of the problems with the design of the dining room is it lacks any form of character or atmosphere and is souless. The fact that a selection of tunes are played day and night on a loop is also distracting but I guess is there to make up for the problem. There were only about 20 covers which meant that service was attentive but almost to the point where plates were being whisked away as our cutlery dropped to them. The food was good but not spectacular, we had ordered the 7 course tasting menu and managed to forge our way through this in 90 minutes so I was less than happy, courses were literally queued up and ready to serve straight away!
One small niggle on teh service front, when my partner asked reception for a new shower cap and shower gel she was asked why? I woudl have though this was evident but there was certainly an air of resentment! If margins are this tight then I would be worried for the long term future of this establishment. Interestingly enough I think it was the owner.....
