We booked a small party for Sunday lunch and looked at the sample menue which appeared to be fine.
On arrival there was a large group occupying the lounge, that was fine and we stayed in the "bar area" it is italics because it only seated 4 altogether apart from the bar stools. The service was prefunctory and there was no warmth or even people around to serve , they seemed to do the job and disappear.. This was a bit offputting considering we would expect the bar to be manned when guests are around. . The menues were perused and choices made. A nice conservatory room with great views was used, in the room adjacent was the group. We waited for our starter and this arrived, the only thing missing was a spyglass to see the food. The portions were miniscule and we were worried about the mains. This followed the same way. Small but picture of beauty.. I like carrots but one elongated square is not veg to me. Maybe the menue should advise that this is a hark back to Nouvelle Quisine and be prepared to have a cream tea to fill up.
Mind you the food was very acceptable and just needs a bit more to make it perfect.
Service at lunch was better than the bar but there was no warmth
Coffee in the lounge after was not up to scratch either, the room was cold and unwelcoming.
Not inexpensive and maybe not an experience to be repeated.

We were trying to think whether there was anything we could fault during our stay and we couldn't!

The hotel and its rooms are comfortable, clean and nicely decorated, the food was so good on our first night we cancelled our table at a restaurant in Ludlow on our second night and ate at the hotel's restaurant again and the staff were all genuinely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and recommend it to our friends.

Have a look at the album of the before and after pictures in the lounge and you will appreciate how much hard work went into restoring this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 24 is an Executive Room and has a bath and walk in shower.

What a find! We stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and elegance of the place. Beautiful room ,spotless and tasteful. Staff were friendly but not over the top. Breakfasts were great even for us veggies - poached eggs to die for and perfect porridge. Thank you!

This hotel is most certainly one of the nicest. We had a lovely stay with a complimentary room upgrade ( it was a special birthday ). From the lovely lady who checked us in, the bar and restaurant staff everyone was so friendly, polite, caring and considerate. If you ever get the chance to stay at this lovely hotel, do. You won't be disappointed. Cleanliness, decor, food were all wonderful. This hotel is a credit to its management and staff.

Room Tip: I believe the hotel will give a complimentary upgrade if the room is available.

I booked afternoon tea on 27th January for 12 to celebrate husband's 70th. After so many good reviews, it was an utter let down. Afternoon tea consisted of tea and biscuits with a few scones (which were very good with jam and cream). The service was poor as we had to ask for sufficient tea to serve most and the coffee and hot chocolate were so cool they had to be reheated. The rather complacent response to my complaint from the owner was disappointing- as I told her, if I had known that all we were getting was tea and cookies I would have bought a tin from M&S. Not one of the finest experiences unfortunately.
