“Excellent food, accommodation in annex average”
Reviewed 14 May 2012

This is an excellent pub on the outskirts of Shrewsbury but within walking distance of the town. We stayed one night on a B&B basis but also ate at their restaurant on the evening of our arrival. The food was very good, well prepared and visually pleasing too. It didn't take long to be served despite the pub being quite full with what appeared to be locals.

Our two single rooms were in the annex which appeared rather ramshackle from the outside but proved to be well equipped with en suite facilities, all of which worked. Despite facing the courtyard and thus the parking area, noise was not a problem.

I have not stayed here, but was driving past and decided to try it because the food prices seemed low!
It's good honest pub food, home cooked as far as I could tell, and very enjoyable. The place is welcoming and the service friendly.
We also enjoyed the beer, the local brew 'Darwin's Origin' is excellent.

We often go here when we are too lazy to cook . last time we ate here was 2 jan 2012. It was just as delicious as usual. We both had a prawn cocktail to start which was lovely and fresh,it was served with white bread and butter which was a suprise but was probably because it was the day after new year and they had perhaps run out of brown. The steaks were as delicious as they always are and cooked to perfection. On previous occaisons have taken my mum and we all ordered steaks with different cooking times and they all came together and were all cooked wonderfully. You just can't go wrong when you eat here.

We visited on Christmas Eve and enjoyed a wonderful meal at a reasonable price. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. After the meal, the landlady kept coming round with plates of home-made nibbles and insisting we tried them, although we were full.

Thoroughly recommend it !!

The Bucks Head Inn is a good honest English Inn that provides everything you need at a very reasonable price. The staff are friendly & helpful, the bar is stocked with a good selection of ales, the menu has something for everybody, the rooms are clean & everything works. Places like this are becoming rare, it makes a pleasant, characterful change from the faceless, corporate hotel. Good location too.

For the money you cannot complain about the standard of accommodation. i stayed for two nights, the room was clean and had all i required. TV Tea/coffee making facilities, spare pillows, hairdrier, iron and board, shower over a bath. The pub was pleasant and busy, the locals were most friendly, the food was good as were the prices. i some times wonder what people expect for the money. the breakfast was ample and well cooked. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 6 are located away from the main building and have a balcony.
