What shear luck on our behalf, been given advise on a dog friendly restaurant in Shrewsbury, we went out one evening whilst caravanning at Oxon Hall Touring Park ( excellent site ), to a place called the Amoury - only got as far as the menu on the board outside, it was sooooo expensive - Corn Beef Hash £ £ £ £
Well , a lovely lady overheard my gasp at the price and suggested we try another dog friendly establishment just over the bridge and across the roundabout ! - Off we go, took us about 8 minutes to reach - Ye Olde Bucks Head Inn - whoooo hoooo.
What a lovely local pub this is.
They welcomed our pooches - Harry, Alfie and Jakey - with open arms, bowl of water and doggy biscuits and a fuss. All they wanted really.
We ordered our meal - inside the pub of course - no ' Sorry you have dogs you have to eat outside !' We took our seat at the table INSIDE - the pooches are well behaved so all were happy.

Oh my goodness - the meal - absolutely lovely - and I really mean that.
We only had to wait 10 - 15 munites before it was on our table - piping hot and delicious.
The attention we received off the staff was beyond expectation - so good we returned 4 days later for another session.

Now - if you do decide to make a visit to this lovely pub for food - please please choose the Homoemade Trifle for dessert, never tasted a trifle so lovely. We were even recommending it to other people eating in there.

Well to finish off this review, all I can say is we will definately be returning to Ye Olde Bucks Inn, I just hope after reading this review you dont all turn up at the same time and we wont be able to get a seat ha ha.

My wife and I have just returned from a couple of days in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. We stayed at the Old Bucks Head Inn, Frankwell.
We are generally leery of staying in pubs that offer accommodation having had too many bad experiences still, it looked a nice place from the web site and from a variety of reviews and I have to say, we were not disappointed.
The Inn itself is warm and comfortable with a decent range of beers, the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
The food was excellent! Generous servings that tasted fresh and home cooked and at a very reasonable price too.
For those with a larger appetite, I recommend the 14oz steak that comes with plenty of chips, peas, mushrooms and fried onions and a small side salad.
The room, number 9, was a little on the small side but clean and bright, the bed large and comfortable. The en- suite bath with shower was a good size with plenty of hot water available on demand. The only downside, and this is a little nit picking, was the lack of storage and clothes hanging space. This was limited to two bedside tables each of three draws, a small desk with three draws also. In addition there was a small open hanging rack with about four hangers for coats and such like. For entertainment / business, all the rooms have free Wi-Fi access and Freeview TV with most channels activated. Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided, again in generous amounts and fresh milk available from the kitchen upon request
The location of this Inn is very good, although on a main road, the area was quite quiet. It is also easy to find and offers a limited amount of off road parking. The Inn is only an easy ten minute stroll across the Welsh Bridge from the centre of Shrewsbury and very close to the Severn Theatre.
The outdoors parts of the Inn are very nice also if the weather happens to be good, a secluded beer garden at ground level, ideal for children and an elevated roof area that offers a number of picnic style tables and benches.
All in all, thoroughly recommended for people looking for a short break to enjoy Shrewsbury and should my wife and I return to the area, we would certainly consider staying at the Old Bucks Head Inn again.

Room Tip: Ask for an external room, as these have their own balcony and access

This is an excellent pub on the outskirts of Shrewsbury but within walking distance of the town. We stayed one night on a B&B basis but also ate at their restaurant on the evening of our arrival. The food was very good, well prepared and visually pleasing too. It didn't take long to be served despite the pub being quite full with what appeared to be locals.

Our two single rooms were in the annex which appeared rather ramshackle from the outside but proved to be well equipped with en suite facilities, all of which worked. Despite facing the courtyard and thus the parking area, noise was not a problem.

I have not stayed here, but was driving past and decided to try it because the food prices seemed low!
It's good honest pub food, home cooked as far as I could tell, and very enjoyable. The place is welcoming and the service friendly.
We also enjoyed the beer, the local brew 'Darwin's Origin' is excellent.
