Stayed 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. From valet parking to eating a meal in the main restaurant was very good . It was nice to see an hotel who employ local people.
The central location was ideal , and we will definitely repeat the experience.
We stayed from the 31/10/2013 till the 02/11/2013.

Room Tip: Make sure to visit the food market on Friday. Lots of local produce

I would like to thank this guest for their positive contribution to our Trip Advisor page following their recent 2 nights with us at The Prince Rupert. We do indeed employ many local members of staff, many of whom have been with us for over 10 years at the hotel. We certainly hope that these guests will choose us again when they are next looking to stay in Shrewsbury...

Just returned from a 2 night stay, Warm welcome, staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the character of the hotel, we stayed in the Charles 1 Suite and would definitely recommend this room! Beautiful decor. We ate at the chambers restaurant both nights and the food was amazing, we also tried the tea rooms, which was really sweet. We stayed Halloween night and did not encounter any of the resident ghosts :), All in all a top rate hotel!

Fantastic to learn that these guests thoroughly enjoyed their two nights away at The Prince Rupert and I am all the more pleased to know that no ghosts interrupted their night's sleep in the 15th Century part of the building during Halloween! I would always recommend our guests to try our restaurants; consequently I would like to thank these guests for their very positive feedback about both Chambers Bistro and Camellia's Tearoom.

All the team and I hope to see these guests again on their next visit to Shrewsbury...

Very friendly genuine warm welcome. Stayed in The Prince Philip Suite, Modern clean en suite and room full of beams & character.

Dined in the main restaurant, generous portions, well presented and more than adequate.

Only 2 complaints water pressure in the shower was very low & perhaps the feather duster used to clean the beams should have an extention on it! Neither of which spoilt our stay in a traditional cosy hotel in an ideal situation to enjoy the centre of Shrewsbury. Will definately return.

I would like to thank this guest for taking the time to post this positive review following their recent stay, and indeed for their constructive feedback. Our housekeeping team have since serviced the Suite and fully dusted the 500 year old beams which, as one can imagine, are somewhat of a challenge to upkeep especially high up on the ceiling. I am of course delighted that this guest is looking forward to returning and in such an instance, I would urge them to contact me directly so that I can ensure the most suitable room for them. I thoroughly look forward to welcoming them back to the hotel in the not too distant future...

Reviewed 31 October 2013

Stayed two nights in early October with several members of my family for an annual gathering. We had 7 rooms in all, three doubles (one of which was a beautiful suite), a twin, two singles and a family room. Four of the rooms had been refurbished and were lovely with comfortable armchairs and a small table, fabulous towels and everything one would expect from a hotel charging the rates they do. However 3 of the rooms were rather shabby and tired looking. We believe they are waiting to be refurbished and expect a good job will be done eventually. I saw the family room which had a separate room with bunk beds and a main bedroom. This was particularly "tired" with cracks and rather old looking bunk beds. The space however was good. The staff were all very helpful and courteous, the glass of sherry in reception on arrival especially welcome, fresh fruit in reception to help yourself all giving the impression of a good hotel. The valet parking was extremely good. On arrival at the front door a card was given to place on your dashboard to prevent wardens from giving a ticket. Once bags were unloaded an efficient gentleman took your car away to park it off site in a nearby car park reserved for hotel guests. Remember to give a good half hour notice to reception when you require your car to be brought back for departure or you may find yourself in a queue as we were (only one man can drive one car at a time!) The public spaces were all very clean and comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the fact that we could all gather together comfortably in one place. Breakfast was as expected...usual choice of cereals, muesli, fresh fruit salad, croissants, yoghurt, juice etc. Full cooked breakfast was also offered with a choice of kippers or smoked haddock as well as the usual bacon and sausage etc. Toast tea and coffee refills as requested. I tried the "spa"....down in the bowels of the hotel, rather gloomy and not really a pleasant environment. It was clean and comprised of a small sauna, a smallish jacussi of sorts and a non working steam cubicle. My son and hubby enjoyed a game of snooker. The hotel building is situated in a fabulous position with easy walking to everywhere. It is in a very old cobbled street and the hotel itself has parts which go way back in time! Well worth a wander along some of the old creaking corridors to see. Friday night had very very loud music coming from a little way down the street....but it all went suddenly very quiet well before midnight. Due to the old cobble stoned street there was a bit of early morning noise as the street cleaners went about their work!....nothing a pair of earplugs can't cope with! City centre hotel must equal some noise!!! We ate both nights in the onsite Brasserie which was reasonably priced for the quality of food. We were a large party and they went out of their way to please us with all our little quirks! The service was excellent and the waitress easily coped with individual bills, and was thrilled with the well deserved tip we gave her. A very pleasant stay, and if the price is right I would certainly return. It would be worth asking for a refurbished room though!

We have just returned from a nights stay at the Prince Rupert .A night away without the kids to celebrate our 25 th anniversary. We were extremely impressed with the service from start to finish. We were upgraded to the prince rupert suite for our stay and even had an anniversary card in our room. i was a little dubious about the ghosts id read about, but we had thankfully no encounters and enjoyed a very pleasant stay. The room far exceeded our expectations with a four poster bed and a bath you so deep you didint want to get out of. breakfast was delicious and plentiful. the valet parking was great and they allowed us to leave the car there even after we d checked out. I would not hesistate to recommend this place for a lovely break in Shrewsbury. Thank you to the hotel.

First and foremost I would like to extend my thanks to this guest for taking the time and trouble to write such a wonderful review of their stay at The Prince Rupert. It is lovely to know that their anniversary celebrations went well and that they enjoyed our Prince Rupert Suite, one of the most historic bedrooms in the County! The team and I at the hotel all certainly hope that these guests choose to stay with us again in the not too distant future…
