Welcoming glass of sherry on arrival. Friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff. Lovely food. Shrewsbury on the doorstep. Car parked a little way away but staff take it there which was brilliant.
Breakfast was good, and all in all a good stay. Our room looked over the rooftops and was a tad on the small side, but we only stayed one night and can't really complain. Staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again were we to visit Shrewsbury again, which I hope we will do sometime.

We stayed here for a weekend break after an impulsive decision to go and discover Shrewsbury. We weren't disappointed - either with the hotel or the town. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the town, so on arrival the valet took our car away to a car park located a short walking distance away, as the narrow streets and cobbled slopes don't allow for a car park on site. We asked the receptionist for a recommendation on where to get lunch, and she was very helpful, offering us a couple of great suggestions, accompanied by a very welcome glass of sherry (nice touch!).
The bedroom was pleasant with a huge modern bathroom. Everything looked clean and the bed was comfortable. After a fabulous day out exploring Shrewsbury, and a lovely evening out in the town, we went back to the hotel pretty late and enjoyed a night cap in the lounge. Breakfast the next morning was in the wood-panelled dining room, and we ate a delicious meal of fruit, toast and a full English, while the spirits of ancient soldiers stood guard over us in their shiny suits of armour.
The hotel staff were courteous and friendly, the location was spot-on, and I would definitely consider returning for another weekend break.

Check in is not until 3 pm but we were able to leave our bags at the hotel and their staff parked the car in their car park.

The hotel is very well situated in a main street with several restaurants in the same street.

Reception answered my emails very promptly and helpfully.

The room was fine, as others have mentioned a little dated but no complaints.

Breakfast consisted of a choice of cereal, fruit, juices etc and a cooked breakfast which was of reasonable portion if a little greasy.

Having booked the Prince Rupert suite (being a massive history nerd and fan of Prince Rupert) my partner and I were a little disappointed to find that the room wasn't quite as grand as we hoped it would be. Firstly, we were greeted by a welcome note which although well intentioned, assumed that we were a heterosexual, married couple. The room itself was charming and we were delighted with the complementary fruit bowl. However, the furniture was very tired, there were cobwebs in the curtains, cup rings on the night stands and the sheets were torn. Not what we expected from the best room in the hotel! Also it seemed very cheeky to be asking guests to pay for wifi. The panelled bathroom was however wonderful and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was excellent and served exceptionally quickly.

Room Tip: This is an old building so don't expect level floors or modern decor! But if you're a fan of...

Have stayed at the Rupert before but this was a surprise for my fiancé after a particularly hard week at work. I booked a four poster room at £175 which was disappointing to say the least. Admittedly the room was 15th century but it looked tired even for that age! Cheap plastic tray for tea/coffee makings (which were themselves lacking in imagination), tired woodwork in bathroom, chipped paint and peeling window frame. Not what you would expect for the price.
Breakfast was reasonable although the chef seemed content to send out a poached egg that was solid along with the smallest piece of smoked haddock I've ever been served.
The bar is unimaginative. No fresh lemon or lime. The night porter was helpful (he doubles as the barman after hours) but appears not to have had any instruction behind the bar. We had to help him find the Pimms. The staff are helpful and polite but frankly not terribly interested in you as a customer. The exception is the porter/valet parking attendant - much more chatty although he and the duty manager (?) dropped our bags at the boot of the car when we were leaving and walked off without a word of farewell - we'd just spent over £200 in one night. That's a bit galling.
In summary, they aspire to higher status but lack the necessary attention to detail required of a really good hotel. I'd love the opportunity to go back and spend a couple of hours offering constructive criticism. I wonder!

Lovely old hotel which has kept its features. Really enjoyed the charms of the rooms. Staff were friendly & helpful. Cooked breakfast a bit of a let down - no hash browns & the sausage not tasty. Overall tho it was a great stay & will definitely stay again.

I was brought here for a birthday treat and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Our room was in the tudor section and it was really quirky and I loved it. As typical for a building this old the ceilings were low and the floor wonky, but just made it more unique! Bed was really comfy. The bathroom looked really new and had a bathtub and a massive walk in shower.
I had the cooked breakfast and the scrambled eggs were really good!
