“Atmospheric hotel perfect for special events”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2013

I recently organised a daytime meeting and themed event in the evening. The hotel team were incredibly accomodating and made everthing from start to finish a pleasure. The staff were warm and welcoming and the historic interiors and the grand adam ball room made for a really special evening, that I'll never forget.

Room Tip: I loved my room at the front of the hotel and wouldn't change it for the world:)..if you are a l...

We were in Shrewsbury yesterday and took advantage of the 3 course lunch offer for 2 at £25.There is plenty of space in this convivial hotel and the dining room tables were sparkling with shining cutlery.
We were well looked after by Micky from Hungary who certainly knows his job and puts his customers at ease. The food was very good ,a bargain with the Travel zoo voucher. and we were both fully replete after our sweet course. We had a window table and watched the world rush by as we tucked in to our succulent steak. Will be there again soon

Stayed here with a Travelzoo deal. Excellent vaue for money. Nice quaint hotel with very good food. It is a shame that the restaurant isn't busier as the presentation, food and service is superb. Would recommend this hotel as somewhere central to stay in Shrewsbury with great parking.. Lovely aged hotel with some history attached to it.

Dont stay here if you're looking for swish chic, this is not a "boutique" hotel. The Lion is a very creaky old building but has lots of character. Location and parking are excellant. I guess that all rooms may not be the same but the one we stayed in was perfect and we will definitely stay here again.

We had a weekend break in Shrewsbury and stayed at the Lion for two nights. The hotel is very conveniently situated and has customer car parking. We were slightly concerned when we turned up and reception had no record of our reservation however the friendly staff sorted us a room. Our room was clean and comfortable. We loved the hotel, you can really sense the history of the place. There seems to be corridors leading off all over and the building creaks and groans as any building should of that age. We always have ear plugs with us so this is never a problem when trying to sleep. The old lift is an experience. This has to be turned off during the night due to the noise it makes. The only fly in the ointment as far as we were concerned was breakfast. We were completely at a loss to see what on earth was going on. Our breakfast took 45 minutes to arrive and it was really nothing to write home about when it did turn up.
We would definitely stay at this lovely hotel again although we'd be quite happy to go elsewhere for breakfast.

We stayed here at the weekend as we were attending a function here on the saturday evening. We managed to get a parking space in the covered part of the car park and felt very lucky in doing so as the car park was already packed at 1pm in the afternoon. Our room was average size, nothing particularly outstanding about it and nothing wrong with it either, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and it does what it says on the tin. The location of the hotel was extremely convenient for shopping and sight seeing in Shrewsbury. The only fault I could find was with breakfast, the staff seemed in no rush to serve or take your order, if you're looking to spend a good hour at breakfast then this is the place otherwise find a greasy spoon in town, the full english isn't worth the wait.

Room Tip: When you book, ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel. Room 317 is great.

We booked the Lion Hotel on a special offer for two nights B&B plus one evening meal.
The room was a little dated but very comfortable and reosnably clean. There was a good powerful shower and a bath. The breakfast was decent with a choice of either cooked or continental.
The staff were quite friendly and helpful.
The hotel is located in the centre of Shrewsbury within easy walking distance of shops, bars etc.
Be aware that the Hotel does charge an additional £10 per night for parking
The best part of our stay was the excellent meal and wine at the restaurant. I can honestly say that it was the best meal and service I have experienced in many years. So, even if you choose to stay at another Hotel, I would recommend you try the restaurant at the Lion
