“Nicely renovated and back in the game!”
Reviewed 9 November 2011

I like coming back to Shrewsbury, like the medieval atmosphere you can breathe everywhere you go. And now I know where I will stay every time I go back there.

The hotel has only recently been fully renovated but luckily it hasn't become yet another Travelodge clone. And it has definitely outclassed the other Shrewsbury hotels I've stayed at, being in the same price range.

Once thing I didn't really like was the noise - my room was located on the street side and the thin windows weren't enough. Make sure you ask for yard side room if you want a quiet night.

Room Tip: Street side rooms are noisy.

We stayed for one night at the Lion & Pheasant. After reading the reviews on here, we asked for a quiet room and our request was accommodated, so we had no noise issues. The room was simply furnished but more than adequate, clean and airy. We ate in the restaurant. It wasn't quite as good as I expected for a two rosette restaurant. They seemed to have over-economised on the ingredients, for example the scallops had been sliced very thinly, so rather than 'scallops', I probably only actually got one scallop. That said, this was reflected in the price and on the whole, the food was well-cooked. We are planning another trip to Shrewsbury and will stay at this hotel again.

A very special place, beautiful touches at every turn with real attention to detail. Great location for all the sights in Shrewsbury. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. Food was top of the range. Given the calibre of the accommodation and quality of the dining, cost was quite reasonable.

My husband and I stayed for 1 night and we were given the loft room. An utterly gorgeous room. A previous reviewer mentioned the small bath but I think it has to be so because of the space available. I tried it and it is perfect for a relaxing soak. There is also a shower room. Going down a few steps to the bedroom area there is plenty of space. We enjoyed the ambience of the hotel - candles everywhere which adds to the atmosphere of this olding building. The chef had prepared sandwiches for us on our return from the theatre. We felt well looked after. Will stay again.

I booked this hotel on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews and it lived up to all expectations. Nice, clean rooms, maybe a bit on the small side, but since you really only use them to sleep they were fine. The food and wine in the evening was very tasty and reasonably priced, considering the quality. The service by the waitresses was very good, professional and friendly at the same time. The only small problem during the meal was that the white wine wasn't cooled sufficiently, but this was rectified by the waitress when it was pointed out. The only negative point is that the car park was quite small and access to it was via a very narrow gateway, but once in and parked it was fine.

Overall a very enjoyable experience.

I came here with my boyfriend for my birthday and stayed in the loft room, absolutely LOVED it, staff lovely, sooo clean and tidy, food delicious, and the room was amazing! Would recommend it to any couples :) apart from the bath was too small ;)

Lets start with the negative the rooms at the front of the hotel are excellent if you can sleep with almost constant traffic noise even after a very good bottle of Rioja I was well awake from 04.00 onwards. They have made an effort with the secondary glazing but a good nights sleep is not on the cards in these rooms. Now for the possatives what a jewel of a place this is great staff, excellent food and a good central location with Arabian nights style bedrroms complete with top class bedding and well fitted bathrooman complete with an excellent power shower. Small car park to the rear watch out for the tight entrance & dont even think of trying to park your Hummer in here go to the NCP over the road. I wll be back but will have to stay well away from the road side rooms.

Room Tip: Stay well away from the rooms at the road side unless you could sleep in the central reservation of...
