“Silly dog policy”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

Just returned from this bar, very warm day sitting outside in what is really the car park next to the main road and told we would have to leave as we had a sleeping small
Border Terrier "Sodje " with us who was hot after a nice river walk. All clients around us were mortified, we were embarrassed and so
We're leaving this review - have a re-think the dog was probably better behaved than some of the clientele ? What harm did he do ? Nowhere near any food, simply lying under a table - discrimination in a nasty form. I will be contacting Wetherspoons to discuss !

We found the hotel easily, it overlooks a river and is near a busy road. Our room was overlooking the river and had double glazing thereby cutting the noise of the traffic down to a minimum, in fact we could not really hear the traffic. The hotel was clean as was the room and the en-suite. The decor was pleasant and differs from the usual chain hotel decor. We had a double bed, not king size unfortunately but it was comfortable, the TV was smallish but adequate. Tea, coffee and sparkling water was provided as were some decent biscuits. The en-suite was tastefully decorated with a bath and overhead shower, shower gel and creme soap was provided. There was no rail on the bath to hold onto while getting in and out of the shower if you need one.
The only negative was that the room was very hot all through the night, it could do with air con but there was a fan in the room which we had to use.
Car parking is on site with a permit provided but fairly difficult to get a space.
The hotel is near to the town and the local park which is very pleasant to walk in.
It was a good stay in the hotel and the town and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a river view room to overlook the car park and small river.

This was our first stay in a Weatherspoons hotel, and we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort level and amenities in the room. The bed was great for a restful night, the shower was good, bathroom facilities were fine. The hotel is ideally located for shopping and for nightlife, with a view of the river from the front-facing rooms, and despite being attached to a pub it was less noisy than you'd think. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming; all in all an enjoyable stay.

Called for lite bite Sunday afternoon with partner. Choose economy meal ham egg and chips and jacket potato with chilli. Jacket potato and chilli lovely, ham and eggs nothing outstanding but good value for money. Pub not busy at time of visit but no one enquired if meal ok. Staff serving and at bar very pleasant, and appeared to be enjoying their job.

Stayed for three nights in the Wetherspoon's Shrewsbury Hotel. The room was in very good nick. Guessing it's been refurbished recently. Everything you would normally expect was provided. Exceedingly good value at £187 for the three days B&B. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Certainly will stay again.

As always the food and drink in the bar were of good quality and most reasonably priced. Had breakfast there each day, many coffees and beers, and an evening meal for four. Always served very quickly and in a friendly manner. Had free parking on site throughout our stay.

Will recommend to others.

This was our first stay in a weatherspoons hotel. From booking in to checking out we found the reception staff very helpfull and efficent. Our room was a good size and looked out over the river. We had fish and chips in the bar at lunch, this was very good. Bar staff were pleasant and our meal was served quite quickly. We would stay here again.

Went to the Wetherspoons pub for lunch. The furniture was in very poor condition for a Wetherspoons.Reluctant to sit on some of the seats.Food was the usual fare, although it did take a while to get it.Did not stay at the hotel,so cannot comment on that.
