We had a family meal on a Friday evening and the restaurant, in the centre of the town, was busy. There is no choice of menu, though there is of course some flexibility built into the dishes to take account of food aversions. Among the five courses, we had a superb fish dish of sea bass and salmon - properly cooked i.e. the fish was moist. The lamb cutlets, pinky-red, were just as good. The service was excellent and it all added up to a most enjoyable evening.

The Renaissance has been a family favourite for years. We try other restaurants in the town, but always return here. The chef is quietly inventive, and the sourcing of the ingredients is first rate - we really will visit their butcher in Flintshire one of these days! The food is well presented and the service is helpful and informative, friendly and informal. You never feel rushed, even when all the covers are full. The six coure tasting menu is great value, and so too are the lunches, where you can enjoy the main courses in smaller portions if you're not a big lunchtime eater - perfect. We are so surprised that the consistent excellence of The Renaissance doesn't win it more notice and praise. Keep doing what you do please!

Had dinner with friends. They warned us that the surroundings were rather dated. The shame is that the decor in no way does the food justice. I thoroughly enjoyed every course and it was probably the best tasting menu I have had. The wine list does not match the quality of the food. So take your own wine, close your eyes and enjoy very well executed, inventive food at a very reasonable price.
