“For the worst night's sleep ever...choose Mad Jacks”
Reviewed 18 September 2010

On first impression, the accomodation seemed very modern and impressive. There were 2 ensuite double rooms and one suite- we stayed in a double room. We were moved into the double room on the first floor but the shower began to leak into the kitchen and restaurant below after 1 minute of turning it on, so we were promptly moved to the other double room on the top floor. I travel a lot both for leisure and work and am not at all a light sleeper but I can honestly say that I have never spent a worse night anywhere in my life. There was a noisy refrigeration unit outside our window which started up like a revving engine with intrusive metal shuddering sounds every 10 minutes all through the night (even earplugs were not sufficient not block out the noise!). Needless to say, I was exhausted the next day and was not able to operate normally- my stay in Shrewsbury was spoilt by this.To top it all off, the cooker had broken the next morning and as a result there was no cooked breakfast. Furthermore, the management of the hotel made us pay the full price on arrival so we couldn't withold any payment for services not received on our departure. When we wrote to complain about our experience, we didn't even recieve so much as an apology. Dreadful customer service! We would never stay here again and would certainly never recommend this place to anyone who wants to sleep at night!

Good central location, really friendly staff, sublime food - we had dinner in the restaurant, and the breakfast was quality, plus good value at £80/night B&B. The room was large, facilities modern and there were some nice complimentary touches like home made cakes from the excellent chef Danny! You wont be disappointed!

We only stayed here for one night on our way back from Ludlow - what a lovely place. We were very comfortsable and really loved the idea of our continental breakfast being left in the fridge for us . The food was so fresh and we really liked this idea which we have not come across before. The room was so comfortable with everything we needed - we will certainly be going back sometime - I would certainly recommend it !!!

We stayed one night in the suite room offered above the Mad Jacks restaurant. It was superb, like having our own apartment. Breakfast was delivered the night before and we ordered in our dinner from the restaurant. I would highly recommend this place. The facitiies are brand new and very appealing. I was very comfortable and the location can't be beat for seeing the city. This is not the place for full service hotel ammenities, but if you just want a A+ place to sleep, book here.

Found this Restaurant with Rooms quite by accident and what a find. Lovely modern, comfortable room with comfy bed and flat screen tv. Breakfast left in fridge for next morning, except on Sunday morning when brunch is included. Trendy popular restaurant below with cracking food and cocktails served by super young helpful staff who really made our Wedding Anniversary special. Thank you.

Visited Shrewsbury on impulse for a weekend break for wedding anniversary. Spotted Mad Jacks and took a room for a couple of nights. What a find! Staff really impressive, young, friendly, helpful and interested in us oldies! Room comfortable and trendy with an excellent en-suite, good shower, comfy bed, flat screen tv. We stayed in Room 3 which has no real view just looks out over roofs and top of church but didn't bother us as weather was bad and also was able to sleep late. Had a look at suite which we will book next time as for £20 extra its quite luxurious. Dined in restaurant first night, again staff great, had happy hour cocktails (between 5 and 7) great mojitas. Really good atmosphere in modern trendy bar and restaurant and food good. Restaurant busy so be sure to book on Saturday night. Pretty courtyard dining area but weather so bad wasn't used. Minor hiccup was noise from restaurant if you go to bed early, but music stops at midnight so no real problem. Highly recommended.
