“LITTLE GEM IN BATH”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

Spent a 5 day mid-week break with my wife in August. After reading some reviews I expected to be disappointed. We were ,however very pleasantly suprised. We had a first floor room with views of the Abbey. Ours was a large room. Newly furbished, with a super-kingsized bed, flatscreen T.V., tea/coffee making facilities, replenished daily and a large modern bathroom.
We had a continental breakfast - reasonably priced (£4.95), fresh, tasty + copious. However, only breakfast is served but with such a variety of great eateries in Bath, this was not a problem. There is a small bar in the hotel open in the evening.
Best of all are the staff - friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.
The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and is well situated, 10 minutes, level walk from the beautiful centre of Bath. We will definitly be back soon.

A Season's hotel, this was the first time we had stayed , and having difficulty with stairs were a bit apprehensive as we knew there was no lift. Our request for an accessible room was accomodated on the first floor and we were welcomed by friendly staff and helped with our luggage. The room was adequate , if not luxurious, but there was everything we needed and we had a wonderful view of the cathedral.
No restaurant, but lovely continental or cooked breakfast available, served by pleasant staff.
Convenient for the centre of Bath, adequate parking and comfortable room.
See you next year !

Having read some of the reviews I was worried about our stay. This was for my friend's 60 birthday, so wanted it to be special. We were not disappointed, The staff were vey friendly and helpful, the room was fine as was the food. There was not aproblem with the stairs, and altough we were on the front, we were not disturbed by noise from the road. The Hotel is in a great position, easy to find when driving (good if you're nervous ike myself!!) and easy to walk into the centre . We managed to combine various "cultural" activities along with some excellent food. The Fashion Museum and William Hershel's Museum of Astronomy were great, and of course we had to have a bath bun at Sally Lunns! Thoroughly rcommend the River Canteen restauruant down by the river, which is iwthin easy walking distance. Kath W

As a Seasons member my advice is to avoid at all costs unless you can be sure of a decent size room. Ours was on the top floor - 4 flights of tricky stairs with no room to pass others coming in the opposite direction. The room was small, cramped, claustrophobic, hot and stuffy - and being on the front of the building was extremely noisy day and night. Overlooking a busy through route we endured sirens, buses, taxis, boy racers and in the small hours an unending stream of HGV's slowing, changing gear and accelerating from the junction. The wooden furniture was heavy and tasteless - I damaged my thigh on an unmoving corner getting into bed there was so little room. No room for chairs so nowhere to sit except the bed. The ensuite facility must have been fitted with dolls house sanitary ware it was so small.

Despite the torrential downpours in between nice weather, we had a great time. The County was much better than expected which is always a nice surprise when you arrive somewhere. We were thinking it would be a bit like a B&B with missmatched bedding and curtains etc.Our room (16 ) was nice and larger than we expected with a little dressing area and a view of the bowling green next door. The staff were exceptional and very kind and went above and beyond the call of duty to get me a phone charger when I realised that I had forgotten mine.( Also the O2 shop in the Southgate centre were very kind and let me unplug one of their phones on display so that I could at least check for texts from the children. My own service provider ORANGE couldnt have been more uninterested in helping, so go to the O2 shop if you are in Bath and want to buy a phone!) I wholeheartedly recommend that you take up the next offer from Seasons that comes through £50 over Jubilee weekend couldn't have been more of a bargain. Use the tour busses, the ticket is £12.50 and lasts 2 days and really helps you orientate yourself around Bath we went about 4 times as it's something that you can do when it rains or shines and there is only so much tea that you can drink.

We recently enjoyed a weekend break at the County Hotel and I can only give excellent praise for the way we were looked after by the staff. A warm welcome was offered us and for all of the staff that we met that weekend, nothing was too much trouble.
The double room that we had on the 2nd floor was immaculate and extremely comfortable and there was no problem with any noise that has been mentioned by other reviews.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody who was wanting to visit Bath as its central location was perfect for walking to any central location in the city.

After having booked a weekend break through Seasons (we own at Clowance in Cornwall) a few weeks back, we then came across reviews here for the County suggesting that only the rear rooms on the first floor were any good. When we arrived to find our room was on one side of the top floor we were a little apprehensive.
We needn't have worried. Yes there is no lift (I imagine the property is listed and wouldn't lend itself to having a lift installed anyway) but on the basis you only really walk up the stairs a couple of times a day, they weren't that much of a problem. As for reports that there was very little room to walk around the bed, again unfounded. Admittedly the room wasn't massively spacious, but we hadn't booked a suite (they don't have any suites) and the room was more than adequate for our needs. Plenty of room to walk around, a decent bathroom with large walk in shower, but as stated elsewhere, no real place apart from the bed or dressing table stool to sit. That said, there is a downstairs bar area (appeared very quiet), a conservatory, reception/lounge area as well as some seating outside the front door - even the bowls club next door has a sun trap seating area that I used one afternoon to take some sun and read the paper in a quiet spot!! We had also read that the walls were paper thin, but unless the people next door didn't turn up all weekend (and we were told that the hotel was fully booked) then we didn't hear a think and we're not disturbed in the least - and my wife is a light sleeper.
So long as you appreciate that the rooms are not expansive with loads of seating, and can manage a few steep stairs (which you are warned about before you book) a couple of times a day, then this hotel is welcoming, clean, tidy and very well placed for the city of Bath and all it's sights and restaurants.

Room Tip: We only saw our top floor room, but to avoid too many stairs, then one on the first floor might be b...
